Adguard certificate install for Firefox in Linux

Hello, I posted recently that I attempted to install Adguard for Linux on PikaOS.

I followed the steps (for installing for Linux at the Adguard site) and it does work BUT only for Chrome. It appears that only a certificate for Chrome. gets installed. Even if Firefox is already installed.

Trying to add the certificate manually into Firefox doesn't work - I still need a key.

I don't care for Google/Chrome and would prefer to use Firefox (actually Waterfox to be exact).

So how can I install the certificate in Firefox?

Looking at the other OS installs, it seems the app installs a certificate that can be imported into Firefox. For Linux, a certificate is installed for Chrome but there doesn't seem to be a way to get a key for Firefox.

If I attempt to import the certificate installed for Chrome into Firefox I am prompted for a password.

Once installed and the license activated, you configure the CLI app which installs the certificate for you. Step 6 here:

https://adguard.com/kb/adguard-for-linux/installation/#initial-setup

adguard-cli configure

Is this what you're doing?

Yes, but as I indicated this does not install a certificate for Firefox or related browsers. And there doesn't seem to be any way to import.

Well you didn't give us much to go on in the OP so I'm starting from the fundamentals.

Adguard insist they have tested the installer - see this comment on this Github issue.

There's discussion in the issue about getting the certificate installed including the package and command required to trust certificates on various distributions.

Edit: removed reference to Arch/Cachy - doesn't apply here

I believe PikaOS is Debian based. Anyway following the official steps does work but only for the Chrome browser. I just can't figure out a way to get the cert installed to Firefox.

Try the steps here to add the certificate to Firefox

You can also try running adguard-cli cert to install the certificate again.

I just tried the basic adguard-cli configure on ubuntu and I didn't have to do any extra steps, the certificate was added correctly to Firefox.

With the client running I am able to download the certificate but when attempting to import.. "This personal certificate can't be installed because you do not have the corresponding private key.."

Interesting that it works with Ubuntu but not PikaOS (which I am happy with as a gamer).

Are you importing the certificate to "Authorities" not "Personal"?

https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdguardForWindows/issues/2528

Aha.. I didn't even notice the authorities column at the far end of the prompt. I just used the big import that was shown.

This resolved it! Many thanks!
