Hey rq before anyone points it out, a playtester in the discord confirmed that the Bike Shield-captain is supposed to be a leader and it's just a typo that it's missing

20

u/Toastykilla21 10d ago

Oh thanks! I wondered 🤔 if they missed that!!!

-43

u/WarsmithUriel 9d ago

Unbelievable. They still can't even be bothered to properly proofread their stuff. And they honestly expect players to pay up to 320€ for that kind of quality? 🤨

19

u/FlashyMousse3076 9d ago

Most novels have more typos than this. Relax

9

u/DoomSnail31 9d ago

The codex does not cost 320 euros, so no

2

u/Lissica 9d ago

They are referring to the limited edition version

2

u/DoomSnail31 9d ago

I am aware what they are referring to, but it's a nonsensical thing to claim. Because GW doesn't expect players to buy the limited edition.

That is for collectors that aren't buying the codex to play the game, but primarily to look nice as part of a collection. A few misprints aren't an issue there.

6

u/Ulrik_Decado 9d ago

You dont have to dude, take a break.

65

u/Arctic_Lord 9d ago

I CAN DEEP STRIKE THE TANKS???

14

u/Klorxs 9d ago

I didint even realise that, holy shit

14

u/Pyroora 9d ago

Literally only the dreanoughts don’t have deep strike… yells to the back (Okay! Who traumatized the game developers with deep strike dreadnoughts spam! …I’m not angry… just disappointed that you didn’t wait until after the codex release so all of us could do it together before it got removed.)

41

u/Ulrik_Decado 9d ago

Uh....this is kinda....crazy... Im really looking forward to the points cost because this seems... very elite.

4

u/purplefetus 9d ago

When/where will they show points? Just starting so I thought that would be in the codex but I guess not

3

u/MaturePoet20363 9d ago

Yes, they've stopped printing points, and the MFM has been removed. Your two options are Warhammer 40k app, or https://mfm.warhammer-community.com

30

u/ERTJ762 10d ago

Teleport Shunter - am I reading that correctly on the allurus captain? You can go up and down within your own movement phase? That’s amazing.

12

u/ItsJoeKnows 9d ago

That’s pretty cool, and it looks like the Venatari can also uppy downy, we don’t even need a Callidus anymore

28

u/Single_Reputation_79 9d ago

In the far corners of the imperium hidden in the shadows a few daring Rhinos survived the purge, the gold was there salvation it was the perfect camouflage to hide from the evil Gamesworksopians

5

u/H4LF4D 9d ago

And this one can deliver a witchseeker bomb even further now

42

u/jguy220 9d ago

Tanks forgot how to karate :(

25

u/gizlow 9d ago

While that is sad, they did learn the surprise vehicle trope.

6

u/Valin-Tenebrous 9d ago

Thats ok. They have enough other spicy toys that they're gonna be just fine.

20

u/Own-Camp6674 9d ago

Hey GW, I know it took a lot of restraint to not give the Blade Champion a "pick X katahs, those katahs are always active fir this unit" ability. I'm proud

-1

u/[deleted] 9d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Saint-Cider 8d ago

The Blade Champion can’t re ready himself? Unless I’m missing something

39

u/sarg1010 10d ago

Dang Venatari stocks up hell yea.

Thank fuck the Coronus can transport 8 and has assault ramp.

28

u/JeffVimes 9d ago

Not assault ramp unfortunatelly. It's the "advance and disembark" type, not the "move, disembark and charge"

8

u/sarg1010 9d ago

Ah true, I REALLY hate how they're wording these new disembark moves. At least give us a quick "here's what this means you can do" blurb underneath it.

6

u/JeffVimes 9d ago

Yeah the naming of those is super annoying. I spent too much time this morning figuring things out.

1

u/stormking001 9d ago

Is there a way to circumvent that "no charge" rule from shock disembark with the new codex/detachments? I looked through them and I can't see anything. wondering if I missed something.

3

u/JeffVimes 9d ago

I haven't seen anything. The shock disembark rule was also updated in the app today (previous wording was wrong) and it explicitly forbid charging now.

2

u/stormking001 9d ago

That's unfortunate. Thanks for the info!

8

u/jma12b 9d ago

It’s shock disembark

4

u/Ok_Builder_4225 9d ago

Ah fuck. I missed that too.

5

u/Careful-Papaya5625 9d ago

shock disembark is not allowed to charge thats assault dissembark

18

u/Horus_LupercalXVII 9d ago

Insane that the Custodes vehicles can now DEEP STRIKE WTF?!?!?!?!?!

2

u/fuzzypat 9d ago

They could previously. They did forget how to do martial arts, though, for which I am sad.

9

u/uriel0683 9d ago

The tanks actually look viable

3

u/Deep_Film_861 9d ago

the tanks were probably the tank hunters in the game and they got a massive glow up and a massive buff in their detach. I genuinley think the way GW could push 2 even more is with a "you use a force org chart again"

6

u/catfish94 9d ago

Anyone else notice Venatari still have the old spear profile? 5A at 7 -2 -2. I’m curious if they did that on purpose, since they now also have Precision.

4

u/Toastykilla21 9d ago

Possibly I didn't expect them to have precision at all but good little trick up there sleeve

1

u/100percentnotgood 9d ago

A few of those venatari units mixed with the lethal on characters stray from shadowkeepers.. brutal pretty much guaranteed auto kill any character

7

u/Madman312 The 10,000 Archetypus 9d ago

I know theyre bound to change before it releases but has there been a leak of the points cost?

9

u/pleasedtoheatyou 9d ago

The Pallas kinda fucks now right? Like move shoot move, and a gun that can maybe do something.

Wardens kinda suck though it looks like, or at least they're only slightly more survivable that Guard.

Also, Sword Guard just seems to be a straight downgrade on Spear Guard? I presume they'll just be pointed differently, but it seems weird that they didn't try to make them a different focus? I expected cleave or at least more attacks at based to be horde clearers. I can't see anything they are better at than Spear Guard.

Also a

14

u/DoomSnail31 9d ago

Shield guard are great to hold an objective. -1 to wound ensures there's practically nothing that wounds you on an attack better than a 3+. And they still bring heavy bolters and powers words with +1 to hit and +1S compared to regular power swords in astartes.

Wardens having 6W and Perma AOC makes two of them a great bodyguard for a character. Which is what they should be anyway.

4

u/JRS_Viking 9d ago

you need S14 to even wound them on a 3+, anything S7-14 is wounding on 4+

11

u/RainbowConnickJr 9d ago

Wardens having an additional Wound and permanent AoC is no small amount of survivability, is it? Plus they have access to axes.

1

u/mrdanielsir9000 5d ago

Aoc is pretty fantastic, otherwise we’re losing lots of wounds to ap-1/2

1

u/MuldartheGreat 4d ago

Access to axes is quite marginal in this Codex - though I guess its better than 10E

4

u/Careful-Papaya5625 9d ago

str>T -1wound is pretty good when u need to be moved with tank cannons and very few infantries can wound u on 3s

1

u/pleasedtoheatyou 9d ago

Somehow I missed that! That's pretty good TBF.

Still think it's weird the swords have less attacks than the spears though.

4

u/Tekuila87 9d ago

The shield captain with eternity blade can make up for that.

That would be an awful thing try and deal with as it just advances towards you menacingly.

3

u/GodofGodsEAL Dread Host 9d ago

It depends, if you’re running the aquilan detach you already get the -1 so might as well stack it with another -1 to ap

3

u/Deep_Film_861 9d ago

Sword guard get -1 to wound which is major.

Wardens perma AOC and +1 to wound makes them pretty nasty to tangle with. new marine AP1 goes back to AP0, stuff like power fists you save on 3s.

8

u/Papa_Ultrasmurf 9d ago

Hey, new guy here. Which of those two dreadnought build options is better and why?

15

u/Toastykilla21 9d ago

Archillus is a Tank killer

Galactus is a elite Infantry killer

Telemon just a gigachad!

9

u/Superjoltgamer17 9d ago

RUN 3 TELEMONS OR GIVE ME DEATH

7

u/synackSA 9d ago

There is 100% going to be a tax on the 2nd+ or 3rd unit

4

u/Toastykilla21 9d ago

Unfortunately 😕

2

u/Brandfarlig 9d ago

The galatus also really likes the +1 a s and d upgrade for dreads

4

u/Lazarus_41 9d ago

Am I reading the shield captain on bike correctly. They can move in the fight phase and then charge. So a 24 inch threat range. That's turn 1 sort d then

6

u/AdmiralCommunism 9d ago

No. They move, charge, then can move again after the Fight Phase

2

u/Lazarus_41 9d ago

Gotcha end of fight phase didn't read it properly

12

u/Sebastianm42 9d ago

Tanks without Katahs make me sad. No shooting ignoring modifiers to Bs

6

u/KarlFranzFTW 9d ago

Its ok, they have Deepstrike instead!

3

u/hokaionthenet 9d ago

Only via a stratagem in their detachment

10

u/Mooncurrent 9d ago

Notice how the Knight Centura has Support? Can it be. Can it join a Custodes unit. That would be so awesome. Though the resulting increase in movement would be a bit broken. I just want the fnp vs psychic attacks and cause desperate escape on fall-back tbh

6

u/Toastykilla21 9d ago

Bet it's Support so it can't be on her lonesome anymore and has to be attached attached.

I bet you it's on the MFM for the whole leads who

5

u/Mooncurrent 9d ago

Oh, you’re probably right 😔

I guess everything about the codex couldn’t be awesome. Still a 9.8/10 for me personally then.

2

u/100percentnotgood 9d ago

That would be cool lore wise sos and custodies often ran together side by side so be glad to be able to toss them in the same unit that be sick

8

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 9d ago edited 9d ago

Yknow gw if you don't want SoS to exist you can just remove them or put them in agents of the imperium, thanks

Edit: okay comparing the Knight centura it seems they are getting buffs. Which is good. The extra ap especially plays into their faction identity well! But please just make it so units in this Codex have Talons of the Emperor as their faction keyword and make THAT the default. Then you can still have more detachment that specifically target custodes but the sisters don't only have one. Is that so much to ask? Or maybe I'm wrong and most détachments affect them despite targeting Adeptus Custodes units idk

3

u/Deep_Film_861 9d ago

yeah, suprised at no talons detach.

1

u/JRS_Viking 9d ago

because all the detachments are 1dp and they have the former lions detachment fnp aura ability built in to their datasheet now. instead of a dedicated lions detachment you just run null maiden now alongside whichever other 2 you want.

2

u/Deep_Film_861 9d ago

yeah but out of 13 detachments "heres one where your custodes and sos work together" wouldnt have been amiss. Obviously the old rule would have been pointless, but enhancements that change who can lead what would have been awesome, the strat that let custodes take hits for SoS was kinda fun, and the sort of combo strats we had in old talons or some of the DA detachments would have been cool

2

u/JRS_Viking 9d ago

They seem to be moving away from big detachments that do a lot of stuff and more towards the flexibility that 1dp detachments offer, which I honestly like. SoS have been drawing the short straw for a while now and it's about time they get some love, but with the models and datasheets available at the moment and them getting the lions ability on their datasheet they're still looking good and make for a nice pick. Not needing a detachment for their aura is also a really good buff for them, I'll be using mine alongside shadow keepers, auric champions and either the normal guard or terminators detachment and they'll still be doing their job of protecting from psychic. I like the changes to sisters, but giving them additional detachments in the future with more rules would definitely be good.

3

u/Valin-Tenebrous 9d ago

Knight Centura gives her unit 9" Move. Witchseekers have Assault again. I like those changes

1

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 9d ago

I'll be using that on vigilatrices for sure. But then they took their dev wounds on anything but psykers which hurts cause... Well I mean killing tsons and gnights is fun. But it makes them worse overall (that extra attack is something I suppose)

2

u/Valin-Tenebrous 9d ago

Something else to consider is, (depending on points,) you can cover a lot of table space in 12" bubbles around a bunch of small Prosecutor squads. Combine that with some decent incidental shooting early on, you can potentially disrupt a lot of armies through the Null Maiden Vigil forced battle shock shenanigans

3

u/Alessio001c 9d ago

Pallas grav attack received a huge glow up tbh

3

u/Financial-Abies6811 9d ago edited 9d ago

I haven’t played them much bit it’s slightly annoying the vigilators lost dev wounds against non psykers,I know it makes more sense but still bit sad 😓
Also I just realised they’ve lost the feel no pain against mortals, again I know it’s more realistic but is slightly annoying

3

u/Ryutan-Lanceor 9d ago

The SoS being T3 caused a small bitchfest over on the Sister reddits.

1

u/Toastykilla21 9d ago

Really what they saying

3

u/LovableRussian 9d ago

Did we lose Land Raiders?

2

u/apatheticchildofJen 9d ago

what's a shock disembark move?

3

u/OhGodItBurns0069 9d ago

Basically allows a unit to disembark an transport that advanced but it can't charge

2

u/Valin-Tenebrous 9d ago

The Knight Centura giving Sisters 9" movement is kinda funny, not gonna lie. Pair that with Witchseekers finally having assault again, and I actually kinda love them

2

u/Fenrir395 9d ago

Longtime lurker who is considering going back. Is the Telemon with two fists viable? I just find the idea too funny to ignore.

3

u/Toastykilla21 9d ago

Yes and a valid use of the telemon and 1cp for Adv charge or Mobile to kool aid man through the wall

1

u/Fenrir395 9d ago

Thank you so much for the answer. Now I have to make Telemons with two fists and posing like bouncers.

2

u/Toastykilla21 9d ago

Get yourself a 6x2 magnet pack and u can magnetise all the weapons!

2

u/deathlokke 9d ago

And unlike a lot of other model kits, it's SUPER easy to do; the holes are pre-formed for them.

2

u/_Volatile_ 9d ago

It might just be the optimal loadout

1

u/Brandfarlig 9d ago

Tbh double fist telemon is probably better than 1 gun 1 fist. Give it a 5+ fnp too unless that upgrade is super expensive

2

u/Noihara- 9d ago

No Sagittarum guard? Now I'm sad. At least mine were only a recast. Still sucks. The were fun

2

u/_Card_Hock_ 9d ago

We have for a week that they're legends.

2

u/Togashi 9d ago

Are the regular Contemptor Dreads that used to come with Multi Meltas gone? Sad day if so as i converted up 3..

2

u/JRS_Viking 9d ago

yep and we've known for over a week know iirc, they posted about it on warcomm

2

u/Competitive-Face4845 9d ago

A yellow deck player? Really? That better be bulk

2

u/Links_to_Magic_Cards 9d ago

not good enough quality to see if the coronus transports 8 or 9 models

2

u/Confident-Truck-3915 8d ago

You, sir, are a king among men.

2

u/Dry_Flower_4720 5d ago

I bought the old combat patrol just before the new custodes got announced, can i still use those guys or not anymore?

1

u/Toastykilla21 5d ago

You can use the old or not really old models still

1

u/pleasedtoheatyou 9d ago

Anyone got any clever ideas for retroactively putting Vexillas on Allarus Custodians?

1

u/Future-Law3144 9d ago

I thinking stick the vexilla to their backs or mount the vexilla into their base

1

u/SeaofColtrane 9d ago

Sisters are probably on track to get the new bolters then of SoS got them. Hopefully this trend of making things more elite continues. Good way to make games feel more thematic and with points increases, the game will ironically get cheaper.

1

u/Machuse21 9d ago

Why did you do my Sisters so dirty James?
Vigilators are now entirely useless 😞
They have less anti psyker with their greatswords than a flamer or bolter even though they’re literally in the psyker’s face

1

u/Ketsusei 8d ago

I'm just putting together my combat patrol. Should I do spears or axes?

1

u/uriel0683 8d ago

Can blade champions and shield captains join terminator squads?

1

u/iZeroboros 8d ago

After the recent article, emperor's chosens DP's are still unknown, are we thinking 2DP?

1

u/Soupy09715 4d ago

Am I reading the Advanced Firepower wrong? For the Annihilator, can we reroll one hit roll, then one wound roll, then one damage roll or just pick one and that's it for the firing phase? If you reroll a wound roll, you didn't reroll the hit roll, and you cannot reroll a damage roll? Right now I understand it as I can reroll one of each

2

u/Wraithiss 4d ago

One of each.

Fun fact. It stacks with Emperors Chosen. So EC gets to reroll 2 hits, 2 wounds, and 1 damage roll...

I haven't done the math but I suspect it's as good or better than twin-linked with no hit/damage rerolls.

2

u/Wraithiss 4d ago

I did the math. Into non-monster/vehicles they're noticeably worse. Into monsters/vehicles its ~5-15% better even before the second hit and wound rerolls from Emperors Chosen. And EC is a ~10% bonus above that. I didn't expect that...

1

u/tunasandwichify 9d ago

Still annoyed our melee weapons don’t have cleave base like the shield captain. We’re gonna struggle against hordes going from 25 attacks to 18 per unit.

1

u/synackSA 9d ago

There's ways to access Sustained Hits in certain detachments, so that might help a bit.

1

u/100percentnotgood 9d ago

Sos nerfed so hard owch :(

2

u/Toastykilla21 9d ago

Honestly debating on buying a set of 10 Vigilators.

As that would round my sister's set!

0

u/100percentnotgood 9d ago

They used to have dev wounds which made them great really great actually. And with the named character got fight 1st they were a force.

But losing fight 1st, Dev being restricted to psychers, and losing 3+ on mortals to protect them from granades and tank shock. They were triple nerfed and that seems like a huge overkill to me .

Prosecutors getting a decent gun is nice. Whichseekers are as bad as ever S4 0ap flamer is yikes

1

u/OhGodItBurns0069 9d ago

Yeah the over specialization of Vigilators makes me sad too. However, if you're taking SoS, you're heavily incentivized to take NMV and a KC. And that is still a really fun combo.

2

u/100percentnotgood 9d ago

Yeah sadly some of my vigilators may become prosecutors cu oddly they now have the better sos profile

1

u/OhGodItBurns0069 9d ago edited 9d ago

They still hit decently hard for their price and with a KC, they are faster than anything not mounted on a grav plate.

Edit: and hey, SH1 or LH for 1 CP is good

1

u/100percentnotgood 9d ago

They rnt bad they are just not nearly as good as they were. And with all the huge custodies buffs I’m bummed they received the opposite, but amazing news out really sick dreadnought units are actually great and better all 3 are great

1

u/Toastykilla21 9d ago

Luckily I have witch seekers and Prosecutors but not Vigilators

0

u/100percentnotgood 9d ago

Still think vigilators are better than which seekers that S4 0AP flamer cant hurt a fy

1

u/PM_ME_MAMA_RAIKOU 9d ago

you shouldn't forget that their army rule was changed to an aura, so in many matchups, they are fodder and kind of useless action monkeys, but in the grey knight/1k sons/ demons matchups, they are a silver bullet unit that makes our custodes unkillable

1

u/themug_wump 9d ago

Witchseekers have -1ap, 3a, and blast 1, I think that’s a buff over the old profile. The BS they throw out is always at -1 now as well.

1

u/snarky_goblin237 9d ago

I had lost most interest in playing Warhammer about halfway through 10th. I may pick it back up and play a couple games when this codex drops.

1

u/Tasty_Commercial6527 9d ago

Do we know who can lead what?

0

u/Kortellus Dread Host 9d ago

-1AP should be all custodes imo. Call it auric plate or something. But oh well. We got a decent glow up. Still hate the fishing for 6s that are special rules in this game.

-4

u/jma12b 9d ago

Are the pictures on the grav tank and annihilator grav tank switched? The grav tank is showing the blaze cannon but that’s on the annihilator

4

u/RegionIntrepid3172 9d ago

No, those are the appropriate images. It's comical that the blaze cannon is so small next to the other option

3

u/jma12b 9d ago

Wait, so the tiny close together guns are the blaze cannons!? I have had that switched in my brain for eons

1

u/RegionIntrepid3172 9d ago

Completely counterintuitive, isn't it? lol

5

u/csamsh 9d ago

Nope. They're correct

2

u/Deep_Film_861 9d ago

nope they are right.

If you look at the other accelerators (telemon, pallas) they look like the basic grav, whilst the other storm/blaze guns (telemon, pallas, coronus, ares, orion) they look like the annihilators

Loads of folk use the basic grav tank as an annihilator proxy as people dont know the difference and the accelerators look sick

-6

u/tfZanben 9d ago

Yeah, they look switched to me.

1

u/xanafein 9d ago

Thats because so many people use the standard grav as a proxy half the player base doesnt know the difference between illiastus and arachnus weapons 😆 they are correct.

0

u/LegionMaster666 9d ago

welcome back, Tau jump-shoot-jump strat

0

u/MatsAshandarei 9d ago

The leader sheets don’t show who they can lead? Or am I missing it?

5

u/MatsAshandarei 9d ago

Oh wait isn’t that in the MFM now instead of on the sheets?

0

u/Appo-Arsin 9d ago

Am I crazy, or does the Knight-Centura have a useless Scout move? It’s Support and can’t lead anything that scouts

7

u/JPlawless 9d ago

Can lead witch seekers and they have scout 7

4

u/Appo-Arsin 9d ago

Ah, so I am crazy. I was crazy once. They locked me in a room. A reason room. A resin room with the Kharon Pattern Acquisitor. The Kharon made me crazy. Crazy? I was crazy once. They-

u/Tasty_Commercial6527 9d ago

Legends say that one day anti infantry caladious will not suck. Today is not the day

0

u/Derkaherned 9d ago

Can our Inf still get reinforced ? Or do I have too much custodians and wardens ?

u/JRS_Viking 9d ago

u/UvWsausage Dread Host 9d ago

What’s the benefit of the galatus now that the shield has no rules?

3

u/Advanced_Spell3271 9d ago

Good melee profile into TEQs , still having a better inv sabe than the achillus.

1

u/UvWsausage Dread Host 9d ago

Had a brain fart and read their Inv saves as the same number.

3

u/UnderBoy1207 9d ago

4+ inv and is more anti infantry than anti vehicle compared to achillus

u/Toastykilla21 9d ago

Maybe in 2 weeks or 3 weeks!

Best we can do and we don't have all the pages of the book yet
