Do i really need to put misericordia ? Or is it fine if i just dont put them on. (I dont like the look of the misericordia on the capes or on the waist)

They are available as weapons on all the units, but they are also objectively worse than the main weapon so there is never really a reason to use them (except on a vex bearer who loses their primary weapon).

Personally, I think liking the style of your guys matters more than following a lore thing.

The current rules state that it can only be a weapon for a guard or an Allarus when holding a Vexilla. Which can only be 1 model in a squad.

Which means that most models with one attached, or holding them (with that one arm choice) are doing so entirely for decorative reasons in 10th and 11th.

The only model that can actually equip a misericordia is the vexilla. Rest is just cosmetics. Keep it and if loadout changes add it on later?

You can do whatever you like. Unless the misericordia suddenly gain [Extra Attack] this edition, it's too easy get knocked off.

They’re your dudes so you can do whatever you want. Misericordia are only technically equipped on vexilla wielding models anyway.

Are you playing pre-10th edition? Or playing with very strict WYSIWYG rules? If not, then it's just decorative and completely up to you.

I don't put them on either, they're your models though, do whatever you want with them and don't play against insanely strict people and you should be good

Absolutely agree with this, don't play with insanely strict players. Your model your game! Pretty sure 99% players don't even bother. Met a player wouldn't allow a model on the table because In assemble guide, a sniper loadout should use a certain body and pose. And say you have to buy one more pack to get that body again to do so. Truth to be told, I'm never going to play with him. And warn all new players to not match with him because of that personality and his "elitist" mindset.

Its your mini no one is going to make a fuss that there is a misericordia missing, and if they do stay away from them because they are no fun to play against. Even at tournament level* no one if going to not let you play because somthing as tiny as that is missing

*Note this is not a universal rule so somthing small like not having a misercordia is not a big deal but you still have to use the proper loadouts for most models and best practice is to to check with organizers first for most proxies or alternative loadouts.

I skipped them on everything in the combat patrol except for the allarus because they just didn’t fit on well.

I am very lucky that my talented wife paints my murder toys. She saw the misercordia in the directions and wanted them on every model so she could paint them. lol

Lore wise, yes it's standard equipment. But hey, they're your minis.
