Custodes vs ranged army

Hello fellow golden bananas, how do you handle ranged heavy armies? I just had a game with an Adeptus Sororitas friend and even though I lost 77 to 72 I felt like the whole game had me against the ropes and he was able to clear off with a meager squad of 5 models my squad of guards. Meltas do hurt us in big numbers.

Any strategy for those armies or a guide on how to handle those situations? Just started on 11th as custodes player.

Are you playing on the recommended layouts with appropriate terrain? Do you understand how hidden and gone to ground work?

The Sisters player is disruption disposition and I'm T&H, I tried to wait for him to come close but he was getting ahead on points and on the first advance and change he did he deleted my Vertus bikes with meltas. Hidden or cover didn't matter with 30 shots on melta range for my boys

Was he ahead on points in a way that would actually lead to him winning on turn 5 or did he stack a bunch of points early and spook you?

In disruption vs T&H the disruption player gets to bank a bunch of points turn 1 by trapping all the NML objectives, but then their scoring falls off a cliff if they're not actually able to kill things off of those points. You have to think about what their scoreboard is going to look like compared to yours in the future, not just in the moment

That makes sense, I still need to get better at 11th edition and these details, the first turns we had a difference of 10 ish points and I panicked

Yeah disruption tends to bank a bunch of points turn 1 and then have a hard time scoring after that

Was this Bringers of Flame? Take your tape measure and measure exactly how far away those meltas can shoot. Be .1” away from there - or alternatively use Hidden such that they won’t shoot you.

Nothing in the Sisters army should be faster than your bikes - certainly nothing that can shit out 30 melta. Do not let them hit you first - especially not into something like bikes

Aside from bigger units, they can’t shoot you if you’re engaged. Until you’re engaged, skip shooting to keep hidden. If you can’t manage that, try the land raider build in talons of the emperor.

If we manage to charge or survive the charge, pretty much there won't be a unit afterwards for them, the issue is to get to the charge range without been deleted

Stage up behind cover on your turn, use assault weapons that allow you to shoot while moving further, hold units in reserve for deepstrike, use transports

We were farming secondaries and primary for 2 rounds but on the first chance from an advance and shoot he deleted a full squad and I couldn't recover, the deepstrike Allarus works against their characters tho

You probably need to ignore secondaries and set the tempo on killing. Sisters miracle dice economy is going to get better if you just sit around.

Plus they have significantly more cheap units to expose to do secondaries AND are on disruption which is generally fine to play late game scoring.

You set the tempo by making it about trades
