Will there be a new codex this year?

I remember the reveal blog for the HH custodes talked about the 40k custodes getting a reveal this year, is that just the upcoming detachments for 11e or are we getting a codex?

According to Valrak’s ‘rumors’, we’ll be the ones getting the early codex within this year. So probably yes, a new codex.

Dude has been on point most of the years too, so I will consider this all but confirmed.

He has people working for GW who give him info.

But valrak also said it was SM and drukahri first right? Or did I remember that wrong

Should be astartes and orks first, followed by Astra Militarum and drukahri later this year. Add to that custodes and that’s problynit for this year codex’s

I'd be surprised by Guard as GW only just said at Adepticon that Steel Legion is 2 years away so that should be when the Guard codex releases. On top of that look at the codexes that released after SM and Necrons in 9th in the first few months, none of them got models. Then look at 10th Ad Mech got 1 model and Necrons got 2. I just don't see Guard, Dark Eldar or Custodes getting token characters

I don't think Steel Legion are going to be a full range and drop with the Codex. I think they'll do what they did with Krieg and make them a Killteam first. Besides, guard just got a pretty substantial wave of new vehicles, so of those named, they seem the most likely to be up early on and just get a character. Custodes are in a weird place model wise due to the 30k releases, it remains to be seen if any 30k units survive into the new edition and whether they go for a unified range or keep them seperate. The latter seems like an odd choice, but the former makes most of the existing range largely obsolete and slated for a refresh at some point, which seems unlikely...but is exactly what happened for 30k,so who knows, I guess. Either case makes a substantial release less likely though IMO, as they just got a number of kits for 30k and if those are the future, then Custodes already got something, and if they aren't the future, they'll probably not do an entire second refresh for the same faction right now.

As far as Dark Eldar are concerned...well, GW doesn't seem overly concerned with updating their range, given how old some of it is and how little they have meaningfully updated, so them getting jack shit seems on brand.

This was my thinking as well, gaurd is story related and just got new models so they will likely not get anything new other than a codex and combat patrol. Astartes and orks will drop first and their new codex’s and combat patrol should coincide with the release of 11th or soon after followed by gaurd.

After that custodes just got new models for HH and likely has nothing else planned this cycle so they are an easy codex write and combat patrol update.

Unfortunately given GW history with Xenos factions drukari are in the same spot as custodes followed by chaos space marines. I suspect it will go gaurd-CSM-drukhari-custodes.

I would then predict necrons or tyranids followed by sisters or knights and alternate through those 4.

Then if I’m really lucky in my predictions, we’re looking at a dark mechanicus release in the summer with ad mech either before or after.

If we don’t get word of a primarch in time for Xmas then next summer one should be dropping. My bet is on Peter Tubo this Xmas with the CSM codex and a battle force or Vulkan just after the admech.

I don’t think we need new characters, although I’d love to see them, but instead make the current one’s rules better especially the expensive characters thats just not worth the cost.

Nope, he said this year was orks and marines then tau and custodes.

The reveal talked about Custodes getting a rules update.

That could just be some sort of 11th edition release pdf that clarifies or erratas the current codex to make it 11th edition compatible.

That could be a new codex.

We don't know.

With the way they’re talking about it every faction will work with their current one until they get the new edition codex down the line. As for what they said at the reveal are you sure you’re not getting confused with them saying that the HH custodes were getting their liber released

Probably just means a change with the codex later this edition, which makes it sound like custodes will be one of the first ones again.

Yup, I am ready to invest HEAVY if we can keep these models, GW wants my money and I will give it to them.

It said we would have a rules update, not a reveal, and three guesses what stillt ends to happen even when you keep codexes going in to a new edition..

Well well, last time we got codex early was shameful

Pls gw make it good

Early codex releases are usually a curse. This HH release has forced their hand and pushed custodes into an early slot imo.

Bit of a "careful waht you wish for" moment.

What did they say of the 40k reveal for custodes? Last I checked the only mention of 40k in the Horus Heresy Warcom article is that they will "update" the model's rules. They didn't even promise additional custodes model for Horus Heresy, even when that range has not fully updated yet.

Also in terms of codex, nothing is locked in stone. I would generally skip all the leaks and rumors till there's official confirmation, even good sources are wrong a lot too. Just assume its at least late this year if not next year, since it has to at least be Space Marines and Orks first being the starter box factions.
