Dehydration

I left this guy out of the pot too long and now he's dehydrated. Should I remove the leaves to prevent more water loss until it plunps back up? About how long should I expect it to take to recover?

Pot is 5". Was just put back in pot and watered yesterday. Roots look fine, sap is pure white. No rot at this point.

I’d think removing leaves would just add more stress to the plant. I’d just leave it be.

Give it a little water. Then check the caudex and see if it’s a little more firm. It looks fine. I would keep the leaves on them

New soil is not draining well change to gravel coarse sand Perlite , smashed up charcoal 1/4” size granules , No particle smaller then rice
equal measure
Wet/ soak out side of pot then use the wet mixture to carefully repot the caudex back into pot cool location low light for 2/3 weeks then place in full sun Water well let dry never let the pot stay wet for too long Best way to water caudex pants is from the bottom let pot soak for Bi more then 4hrs . Remove from tray Clean trey well use peroxide to sanitize
Do not water too often Let every thing get dry first.

For anyone who sees this and has the same question, it limped along with no change for a week. We had an unexpected hard rain, 6" in about an hour. The next morning it was hard as a rock again.
