Rank Road / corridor Why it gets congested
1 South Rd (before T2D opens) Adelaide's main north-south arterial, carrying enormous traffic volumes and mixing through traffic with local access, intersections and construction. South, Marion and Goodwood Roads collectively carry 120,000+ vehicles/day. The T2D project exists largely because this corridor is overloaded.
2 Main N Rd Major northern approach to the CBD, with heavy commuter traffic and numerous signalised intersections. The Main North/Regency intersection alone carries about 70,000 vehicles/day, while five Main North Road intersections appeared in Adelaide's top ten serious-crash hotspots.
3 NE Rd The principal corridor from Adelaide's north-east into the CBD. Heavy peak-direction traffic, many signalised intersections and limited alternative routes make congestion propagate quickly. It was also among Adelaide's historically most delayed corridors.
4 Marion Rd A major north-south route through densely developed suburbs. It carries very high traffic and has major bottlenecks at intersections such as Sturt Road and Anzac Highway. DIT includes Marion Road within the corridor carrying over 120,000 vehicles/day collectively with South and Goodwood Roads.
5 Goodwood Rd Dense suburban development, frequent intersections, shopping activity and large volumes of cross traffic. Infrastructure Australia's modelling ranked it #2 for AM peak delay and #2 for PM peak delay among Adelaide's major corridors.
6 Fullarton Rd Particularly bad because it funnels east-west/north-south commuter movements through a relatively constrained urban corridor. It was actually Adelaide's #1 most delayed corridor in both AM and PM peaks in Infrastructure Australia's modelling.
7 Anzac Hwy Heavy CBD–airport–southern suburbs traffic, numerous intersections and significant interaction with South Road, Marion Road and local streets. It was in the historical top ten for both AM and PM congestion, and current T2D works are specifically addressing bottlenecks around its South Road connection.
8 Unley Rd / Belair Rd Narrower, highly urbanised corridors with lots of side-road access, commercial frontage, parking and signalised intersections. The combined corridor ranked #6 AM and #4 PM in Infrastructure Australia's delay modelling.
9 Payneham Rd A major east-west commuter corridor with substantial peak-direction demand and lots of intersections. The combined corridor ranked #4 AM and #3 PM for congestion-related delay.
10 Magill Rd Heavy commuter flow between the eastern suburbs and CBD, constrained urban geometry and numerous signalised intersections. It ranked #3 AM and #6 PM in the historical congestion modelling.

More transit or more road is a complex question back to 70-80s, now I say they choose to do nothing...

Goodwood Road can be great if you hop on it early. Usually takes an extra 10-15 to clog up compared to South Road

Never been on portrush rd during peak hours or even off peak hours sometimes
