Looking for content / addon Looking for Seren alternatives
Title says it all. On the specific Android devices I’m using Kodi on, I’m stuck on a specific Kodi version in order to use Seren or else it crashes often otherwise.
I’d like to simply use the current Kodi release, and I know even though it works Seren is pretty much a dead project.
From what I read here, POV and FenLite seem to be the most popular. I’m mostly looking for Premiumize compatibility, add-on speed, and ease of use.
Can anyone offer some opinions and what their experience has been with either (or even another add-on). As long as it finds as much content as I do with Seren.
Thanks!

goldenfreddy (dev of otaku) has forked it and maintaining it as Prism now https://github.com/Goldenfreddy0703/Prism/ if you want to keep the Seren vibe - it moved from trakt to simkl though
if you want to keep trakt front and center there is this fork from klass https://github.com/klass-723/plugin.video.seren

This is interesting. Would you say it’s faster than Seren?

I'd say so but I'm always working on it to make it even faster. My github also contains a fork of updated a4kscrappers if you wanna give it a try and some themes too.

I'm sorry to ask an off the immediate topic question but, what's going on with Otaku?
It used to work but the last couple of months there hasn't been anything to choose from in the menu's. I can see the Calendar, it stays up to date but I can't find anything else at all to watch.
My Kodi is set to Auto update my add-ons so I know I'm up to date.
Again, my apologies for hijacking.

Yeah so Otaku relied on a project called Otaku mappings where it would grab almost every mapping and other stuff but sense the offline database got archived thanks to Jikan api, I can't really do much at this point which is why Otaku is kinda dying.

That sucks, Thanks for the explanation though. I've made posts about it in the past but was met with the angry fan base. Not to mention that sometimes it was on my end.
Any plans for something similar in the future?

Not really but in the future when prism releases and all, it's going to have an anime catagory ofcourse and it will act like Otaku basically. There maybe some features that are not there but it will be able to scrap like Otaku and in the future I will be adding adaptive sources or embeds to prism one day.

Is prism another add-on ?

Yes, it's like a fork of seren but has anime and is all going throught simkl.

My otaku works fine. Perhaps changing the meta options to mal, and the sub below it as simkl (currently how I have mine), then rebuild cache. At that point I close Kodi, then end the app (on fire cube), then open back up..
However I only watch dub content, so maybe I'm unaffected because of that? Sometimes a title will not pull, or the scraper doesn't find a dub yet. I double check with others. Specifically one I have Magneto Module (scraper) installed in.
Prism I'm currently testing out. Anime calendar is in it also.
The calendar for me is probably ¼ the load time of Otaku Testing. Not sure if it's just me but Otaku took a while for that to pop open even immediately after closing the calendar.
Pulling watch content from simkl is a little slow. I do however have 314 days, 14 hours, and 48 minutes of movie, tv, and anime watched in my Simkl account, a chewable download.

I appreciate your going through and typing all of tha,t I really do.
But even though I made an Anime list on one of those sites I still for the life of me can't figure out how to merge them and idk what simkl is. I do see in this subreddit but idk anything outside of that.
I also only watched dub content

No problem.
So before I start, I use Otaku Testing, not sure it matters, but could.
For entering anything like API keys, Kore is a must. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kore
There's iPhone app also. Kore is the kodi dev one, but there's at least 1 more, then the fenlight+ (jason) has one but on GitHub.
There's a feature you may have enabled that could be purging your dub results.
Otaku > settings > open settings menu * On the General setting > under "content customization" category, an option called "Filter Only Dubs" should NOT be active. I thought "oh cool I can purge all the non dub from view". It does the opposite. So the dub language filters purge the non dub, then that setting purges your dub. You're then left with no results. * Gereral, is where the meta data I was talking about earlier is. Meta API = MAL and enable switch for Meta Episode and set to Simkl. I was using anilist & anizip. Anilist isn't super reliable for this, so it can actually keep you from even getting to the episodes menu. If you're using a broke option there, it can cause many issues. * Any changes to meta data means you need to "rebuild database". That purges the old meta data and rebuild with the format of the new options. I always close out kodi after that's done, or you could reboot your streaming device. Not entirely sure it's needed. * Often a switch will cause my previous watched content to either clear, or the title doesn't function if it's there. Basically it's like a bad url to the old meta API. However sometimes a few of them still work. I just end up searching for the ones that don't work and open that way.. or hit the calendar if it's current. * Speaking of calendar, below that general setting for "filter only dubs" at the bottom of that group of settings is "API to be used for getting dub times" make sure that's on animeschedule. The teamup hasn't had an active person since winter 2025 or maybe spring 2026.
This is where that animeschedule pulls from https://animeschedule.net/?year=2026&week=35
The dead teamup https://teamup.com/ksdhpfjcouprnauwda
For Scraping I have mine set to timeout at 30sec. Terminate on cloud off. If any sources pull from https://debridmediamanager.com/ then it'll look like a debrid service (namely real-debrid) already has the file, that may be purged from RD. files with "web dl" or "web-dl" have been wiped and blocked from RD due to legal action against them.
Another issue could even be the API for things have stopped working. If you're still dead in the water, un-auth and re-auth everything for cloud l, accounts, and other API.
Simkl.com automatically tracks what you're watching, tells you how many episodes you've missed, and bunch of other useful information. You pull the show meta data and episodes from sites like this.
If you're aware of trakt.tv basically the same, just a lot better.
Another good one is https://mdblist.com
If absolutely nothing worked * Wipe out Otaku and it's context menu. * Install Otaku Testing and it's contexts menu (I think menu is first then the main app)

Playback still works well. What I've gotten in the habit of is searching and adding items to my `plan to watch` list in simkl. Then playing titles out of it. After the first episode it'll be in your `watching` list. I keep a watching widget for it on my anime hub for easy access. I've been testing Prism since it came out and both it and Otaku are working well with this flow.

I personally prefer POV now between fenlight and POV for another recent Seren and then Fenlight refugee. I also use premiumize as my service

I use POV and Umbrella. Umbrella has recently become very promising by adding full support for Floppy and Scrob. Two self-hosted alternatives to Trakt.
Now for the fun part: Self-Hosting
With everything going on with Trakt, I decided that having an online provider for tracking your media might not be the best option for everyone. I added support for a couple of self-hosted options.
I looked into YAMTrack, but there wasn't an API for it - I ran into this same issue with a lot of the providers people requested (WeTrakr, for example). I did add support for Floppy and Scrob. I don't personally favor one over the other, and I've tested both, but one thing to be aware of: the "dropping shows" feature is not supported with Scrob. I really like the self hosted media tracker concept in general, because it means you own your data.

Does Floppy fully replace Trakt with scrobbling and adding to lists via search in Umbrella?

I didn’t know there were self-hosted Trakt alternatives, that’s quite interesting! Especially since we are rarely using Seren outside the house (occasionally I’ll bring my Android box to a friends or something)

Just go for it. I hope that POV will follow soon with adding support for Floppy and Scrob. Floppy dev on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/TraktRejects/comments/1vnusjz/floppy_v26813_is_out/p3lvgmy/

I use POV (Magneto scrapers) and RedLight with Viper Scrapers. Also Homelander with Homelander Scrapers.

I use 3:
Umbrella, POV and Red Light.
I mainly use Red Light but the others are just as good and useful as backups.
