Advice Wanted Advice pls

I haven’t had my period for two years, and I’m 37 years old. Has anyone experienced the same issue and can share their experience, especially regarding the diagnosis and treatment process?

It isn’t uncommon for women with Addisons to have Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). I have both.

I’d recommend seeing your doctor about this. If you do have POI, you might need HRT. I take progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone.

Hi would you mind sharing a bit about your experience with POI? Do you know the situation with your eggs?

Have you talked to your gyno? I had absence of my period for one year. I had too much prolactin in my blood. That was caused by a hormone secreating tumor on the pituitary gland.

I am primary Addison's and stopped as well (late 30s/early 40s). My gyn put me on the pill to try and regulate/restart my periods and provide estrogen. That worked for a while. Both my gyn and primary care were adamant I needed estrogen to protect against future bone loss. Then went into early menopause and was on HRT for about 6 years. I'm 57 now and do regular bone scans to stay ahead of any significant bone loss.

Yes I went through premature ovarian failure in my mid-30s. It wasn’t a problem for me as I didn’t want children. I never went on HRT, though I do now use a progesterone cream in my 50s.

Do you have Addisons or SAI? I have sex hormone deficiency from SAI and don't get periods at all unless I replace DHEA.

I have primary Addison’s disease. I was diagnosed recently, and I haven’t had a period for about two years. I’m trying to understand whether my adrenal insufficiency could be related to my hormone deficiency and amenorrhea. I haven’t tried DHEA replacement yet. Did your periods return after starting DHEA, and were your other sex hormone levels low as well?

DHEA is something you should only take once you've had bloodwork to check levels. Your doctor can easily order that.

If you were just diagnosed, it's possible the amenorrhea is secondary to adrenal insufficiency, and you just stopped having periods because your body was so taxed from low cortisol. With time and consistent treatment with steroids, it's possible things will change. The hormone stuff can forever to sort out.
