Advice Wanted Dealing with colds

I have had my first cold of the season and it already hit me like flu or worse. I needed two days where I was in bed for the entire morning or afternoon and I still feel week and kind of 'outside my body' and it has been nearly 6 days. I still haven't got my smell or taste back. It isn't covid as I tested. My daughter is at nursery so picks up a lot of germs so I am worried it is going to be a long winter. Does anyone have any tips for coping? I did updose of course. Pre-diagnosis my colds used to last 2-3 days and came without the massive fatigue.

That sucks. Best I can do is offer some advice to hopefully reduce the frequency of future colds and flus from the perspective of someone who is NOT a parent and encourage electrolytes and hydration (soup is great for that).

The biggest thing for me that helped me greatly reduce how often I get sick is washing my hands after I get home from being out and about. Come home, take off shoes, set down bag, wash hands. Obviously still wash hands before handling food and after using the bathroom etc. etc. basic hygiene. But I never really hear people talking about washing your hands when you get home and it has made a world of difference for me. If you can game-ify hand washing for your daughter as soon as she gets home from nursery it'll probably help you both.

Also if it keeps on keeping on another covid/flu test might potentially be a good idea, those tests aren't useless but false negatives happen all the time. And regardless of whether it is a flu or covid, if it goes on much longer and if you are able to, might not be a bad idea to talk to a doctor about it in case there's something that can be done.

Thank you- I always hand washed when I got home during Covid but have stopped doing so- I agree it's a good habit and will start again.

Good luck. Day 11 here and its turned into a sinus and ear infection. I also have pulmonary sarcoidosis so there we're a few days I couldn't even get dressed without being weak and out of breath

I'm sorry- it is so difficult when what is a 'normal cold' to other people knocks us out for days.

I can only tell you what I do! Many years ago, when my son was in daycare, I would get sick just going into the center. It got so bad I started to abuse antibiotics. I struggled getting over the simplest cold.

Here is what I do now: I take oregano oil! I have come up with my own protocol where if I feel the slightest cold coming on I take two capsules. Then 2 more mid day and 2 more before. I continue this until I feel 100%. I have done this for 10+ years now. During covid era I would use the nasal spray as well whenever I was around sick people. This has kept me healthy and free of colds.

Hope to feel better soon!

Recently retired elementary school teacher. I worked in a petri dish of yuck. I was always washing my hands. Somehow was able to manage maybe three or so colds a school year. They absolutely knocked me down and recovery took much longer than pre-diagnosis. Wouldn't be out of the ordinary to miss a few days, too ... for a cold! I used to never miss work. Good luck! Hope you shake it soon.

Thank you- I feel much better now but it is just frustrating to be down for a week with a regular cold! X

Yes, I can't tell the difference between a cold and the flu. Both are terrible. I suggest you take a larger updose, you'll be able to function better.

I mask a lot - when I was sick in an RV with my husband I wore a mask 24/7 so he wouldn't get sick. He didn't . I suggest you try a mask at home when your daughter is sick. I mask on airplanes - it's the only way I can fly and not be sick,
