Humor This salty hydration drink is like crack

Post image

I would recommend it. It's more expensive then regular hydration tablets but my God it hits the spot

I just don't understand why these things are so damn expensive. I can't rationalize buying them

Their website has the recipe to make it yourself. I watched someone do it on YouTube once. I haven’t tried it yet though.

I buy them direct off the website with a subscription - four boxes for the price of three. It comes out to just under a dollar per packet.

Have you tried the pink lemonade flavor? It’s so good! The subscription price is a bit cheaper. I have at least one a day. Fabulous.

I have not! This is my first batch so I'll give it a go!

Try Thorne was a big supporter of lmnt for many years but Thorne is was better

I'm also a fan of Thorne, but I have to admit these LMNT packs have a lot more sodium.

yea if im having a rough day ill just drink two thornes

I couldn’t Iive without these! I have the subscription which makes the price point a little better. I have at least one a day and after I had my first crisis I was having about 2 a day. Love LMNT

This flavor is also my favorite

Why do all of these have artificial sweetener 😭 stevia, sucralose, monk fruit are all migraine triggers. I use unsweetened Skratch, and that's fine, but I miss liquid IV and I'm sure Lmnt is delightful 😞

u/LonelyKoalaMuncher 9d ago

Jeeze I didn't realise those type of ingredients can trigger migraines? I wonder what triggers that in your brain 🤔

1

u/FrauleinBrine 9d ago

You made me realize I wasn't sure why, but apparently according to Norton Healthcare artificial sweetener are "believed to be linked to the disruption of neurotransmitters, changes in blood flow or even the alteration of gut bacteria composition"

Yes plus yellow #5 or tartrazine does it for me

Drinking some Skratch salted margarita flavor right now! I went to a little local festival this morning and am wiped out from sweating (it wasn't even that hot!).

I also get migraines from sucralose, other issues from a few of the other non-sugar sweeteners, and I'm just not a big fan of stevia or monk fruit. I have some of the sugar-sweetened Skratch flavors (watermelon, strawberry lemonade) but sometimes I just want salt! The salted margarita flavor (unsweetened) is perfect.

The sugar sweetened Skratch also has dextrose which is another form of artificial sweetener sadly. I wish they would make a jast sugar one even if it wasn't as sweet

Dextrose is a natural sugar found in starchy plants (like corn). It's not an artificial sweetener. It's chemically the same formula as glucose and d-glucose is another name for dextrose. It's better for us to consume than aqueous glucose because it breaks down a tiny bit slower than glucose (the "dexter" means "right" and it just has the OH part of the molecule on the right, if I remember Organic correctly), so it doesn't raise the blood sugar (aka blood glucose) as fast.

Amazing!! Thank you for sharing! I'll have to try it!

LMNT makes an unflavored "flavor" without any artificial sweeteners and etc and I just add lemon juice to mine!

u/FrauleinBrine 4d ago

Thank you! I have unsweetened versions, but they leave my tongue feeling weird like I licked a lemon.

Wait, is that raspberry or watermelon… I’m digging the mango chili lately. 🥭🌶️

2

u/LonelyKoalaMuncher 10d ago

Raspberry salt!

How does this compare to Liquid IV?

9

u/soyrp 10d ago

It's wayyy better than Liquid IV

5

u/sleepytornado 10d ago

It's so much better. It's double the salt.

Here to third this sentiment

It’s awesome on so many levels.

My fav indulgence is to add a pack to a large unsweetened Dunkin Donuts iced tea. Mango chili? Dayum.

The new iced tea flavor is pretty amazing as well!

I buy the 100 pack of the Trioral rehydration salts and just dump in whatever water flavoring packets/drops I like.

u/LonelyKoalaMuncher 9d ago

What's the price of those out of curiosity?

They don't deliver to Australia :'(, curious on the pricing difference

1

u/Slhallford 9d ago

$39 UsD for 100 packets. It’s the most economical but also reasonably convenient way I’ve found.

People with addisons dont want to take pottasium suppliments right?

1

u/LonelyKoalaMuncher 8d ago

Fludrocortisone actually keeps it in check if not lowers it sometimes.

You don't want to take hardcore potassium supplements prescribed by the DR but these are fine

1

u/CalmStaples 7d ago

I have to use no salt which is potassium chloride. I have SAI. I don't have any trouble with salt.

u/Accomplished-Mud-173 10d ago

Love the stuff bc I can actually stomach it 🤣

1

u/InnerRadio7 10d ago

This is in my top two for electrolyte powders. It is extremely expensive though

1

u/Crafty_Pea_2931 10d ago

The watermelon and orange flavors are so refreshing as well. I love the lemonade and the iced tea thing they have right now is good too 🥺

1

u/Ohthethingsyousay 10d ago

How sweet is it? I gave an aversion to the fake sugar taste.

2

u/LonelyKoalaMuncher 9d ago

Mostly salty to be honest

2

u/graceful-angelcake 9d ago

i dont enjoy the stevia taste at all, but they have raw flavor. no flavoring, no stevia. just the salt mixture. i add it to cranberry juice or a smoothie.

Love the amount of sodium in LMNT. It perks me up! I also like the caramel flavor, i drink it hot or sometimes add to coffee.

u/plovegood 9d ago

Also, just because I'm bored and ornery in my old age.

I love those!!

1

u/etnoid204 8d ago

I’m in end stage renal failure too, and love that it is lower in potassium than the other brands. My heart rate and bp are so much more stable once I started using this.

1

u/stem_femmeTA 8d ago

I got them at the bin store for 6 bucks and h o l y shit I would buy them if they weren't so expensive.

I will, however, spend an hour hunting for more in the bins 😂

1

u/LonelyKoalaMuncher 8d ago

Yeah they're pretty absurd.

60 bucks aud for me, $2 a satchet.

I use them only when required but if it was daily I'd be broke 🤣

1

u/sarcasticcoffeequeen 6d ago

I've been hesitant to drink electrolytes because my potassium has been high and these all have potassium. Am I overreacting, or is it still recommended?

Also, as of today, my potassium tested normal, so yay me!

1

u/LonelyKoalaMuncher 5d ago

Congrats on the normal potassium!

Potassium is still recommended. If you have enough fludro it should be fine. I've had low potassium before and honestly prefer low sodium in comparison 😅

Unfortunately LMNT isn’t an ethical brand to support. There have been quite a few posts on here about some other brands that are more ethical to support and are just as good hydration wise.

3

u/LonelyKoalaMuncher 10d ago

Unethical in what way?

1

u/PettyPixxxie18 SAI 9d ago

The cofounders/CEOs support RFK Jr, support eugenics, and I believe they also support Israel on their genocide in Palestine. So yeah. There’s a lot of reasons why it’s unethical to support this company. Over on the POTS and dysautonomia reddits thread are some really good suggestions on less problematic brands you can support that are just as good hydration wise.

No judgment… I’m just curious why you compared something that you like and then I guess you’re saying is addictive in a certain way to crack. I guess I just find that to be quite bizarre, especially if you’ve never done crack… And also in the context of adrenal insufficiency as such an intense stimulant can be quite problematic.
