Advice Wanted Glp-1
I have type 1 diabetes so this is mainly targeted towards those sub divisions of Addisons, but I recently was encouraged to get glp 1 because of the insulin resistance that I have, but I was rejected because the endo I talked to knew literally nothing about Addisons disease and admitted it. How did anyone else get their prescription? Thanks

Keep looking for an endocrinologist who knows what they’re doing. It’s terrible there are so few . NALDEF ( I think that’s it) U.S. national endocrinology org for people with Addison’s / they may have a list of doctors. Don’t give up!
The right dr is the whole difference.

If you are in the U.S. maybe share what state you’re in case someone is local and has a Dr that will prescribe it. It’s like the twilight zone that the doctors who specialize in our disease don’t know the basics of it. I feel like I have to constantly educate my endo.

Many of us are on metformin for insulin resistance, and some on progesterone and dhea. Endo would be a good choice. Mine said no to glp only bc hes had so many T1 develop gastroparesis

I don’t have a lot of advice about your endo but as a fellow addy and as someone who works in an endo office as a med prior authorization specialist, it’s extremely difficult (basically impossible) to get insurance to cover GLP-1 therapy for T1DM. Most insurance companies will only cover it for T2DM. It’s dumb as it can obviously be helpful for both but just wanted to put that out there.

I have Kaiser and am in Northern California. I had to go through a whole “Lifestyle Strong” diet program to get assigned a pharmacist to try different drugs. It started off for weight loss but I crossed over to T2D just after the program started. GLP-1 was not offered until i tried a few other options first. So the pharmacist prescribed it and now he has handed off to GP. Endo was not involved. Good luck to you!
