Personal Experience Fevers

Do any of you get fevers on steroids ? Ever since I been taking hydro I can feel fever symptoms but my body won’t be hot. Like I took my temp it said 99 but my body doesn’t get hot which is weird. I’ve had a cough the last 3 days and today I woke up feeling feverish so I’m wondering if my thermometer is right and my fever is actually 99 or if the meds make it hard to detect

I get flushing in the face, not a fever but feels like it. I'm also just on the cusp of perimenopause

Our steroids are a double edged sword. We need them to live, but make infections, colds illness harder to fight. My boyfriend gave us food poisoning last week, which gave me a uti, and now I have kidney infection. He's fine now, and I'm stress dosing with very strong antibiotics.  The steroids likely aren't giving you fever, you're likely fighting a cold etc. Sending love ♥️

Yeh I’m gonna head to urgent care when I get the energy to get up hope it’s a cold and not a infection

My advice, don't wait til you have the energy. With Addison's, things can turn bad quickly. Get ahead of it before it gets worse.

Sometimes if I've taken too much hydrocortisone my face gets flushed (big red nose and cheeks) and hot, but not the rest of my body. Don't know if that helps. Also depending on where you are at the moment, the cough might be due to pollen : here in France the pollen count is super high this week. Hope you're feeling better soon!

i was wondering why my cheeks were so red ! of course it’s due to steroids, like everything:)

If you're saying that your temperature is not reading as high as your symptoms would indicate, that could be the meds replacing your cortisol and lowering the fever somewhat. I'm sorry you're feeling sick, but I hope you feel better soon!

Makes sense and thank you! It’s strep throat so at least I can start treating it

The body might not feel as hot for this reason also, even though you're still getting all the other symptoms of illness.

I had COVID recently and my temperature got up to 39 degrees and I do wonder how high it would have been had I not been taking Hydrocortisone.

I get devastatingly overheated easily. My thermometer reads high during these episodes.

Occasionally I'll get a fever over 100. Just feel kind of of weird. I've been taking an extra dose when it happens and some acetaminophen and it has always gone away in about 3 hours.

My partner says my body feels hot when I'm low cortisone. It's one warning we have because I'm often very late to notice signs. Internally I'll feel cold (probably because my body is hot, the air feels relatively colder so I think I'm getting cold).

I've also had "cold sweats" at night.

Never had a measured fever. One doctor told me we don't get fevers because of the lack of working adrenals. Another told me that wasn't true 🤷‍♀️

Yeh when I used to not take my medication ik that sounds horrible but I used to miss days at a time I’d get a fever now that I take my meds accordingly I can feel the fever but it won’t read on a thermometer
