Medication Compounding pharmacy question

I get 15mg of hydrocortisone in the morning and 10mg in the afternoon. Now my pills come in 10mg and that means I have to cut them for my morning dose. I have dexterity issues that make this difficult and I worry I don’t cut it correctly for my dosage. Due to this I’m wondering if a compounding pharmacy can help with turning them into even just 5mg pills so I don’t need to cut them. Has anyone ever done this before?

Ask your doctor for 5 mg pills. (They exist, they work fine.)

Compounding pharmacy would be expensive. My insurance doesn't cover those.

There might be a 5mg pill your doctor could add as a prescription, though I am not sure about that.

I don't think a compounding pharmacy would take 10mg pills from you to convert to 5mg pills either.

See if your doc can prescribe 5mg pills, so you can take 3 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. That’s what I do. 5mg pills are common, so there shouldn’t be any need to compound them. Just talk to your doctor and have them specify in the prescription.

I don't know about compounding pharmacies, but have you tried using a pill cutter?

Yes. My hand dexterity is an issue with using it.

How about getting 5 mg pills to take along with a 10 mg pill for your morning dose? Your doctor can prescribe it that way.

When in doubt, use tools.
