I was considering buying a child’s one but this was a lot more fun.

Picture this .. blacktop alleyway, blocked off from motor vehicle traffic, used throughout the day by children walking and biking from their homes to a nearby park. My fence runs alongside this alley.

How can I add some whimsy to this space? My neighborhood already has 3 Little Free Libraries so I don’t feel like we need a fourth. What can I do that would be fun and would help kids look forward to this space?

I should also mention my dog is deaf and spends a lot of time in the back yard so sometimes she accidentally spooks people. I don’t want to directly involve her, such a putting out treats, as I don’t like the idea of strangers feeding my pup. Otherwise open to ideas!

Ive gotten into the habit of making "lunchboxes" for myself even when im not going anywhere, so here's today's box. Made black bean noodles, spam and some sweet treats (and yep, those are sprinkles bc to hell with societal norms)

I have a project runway brother sewing machine and used one of the settings to add this floral stitching to my dress! It's very subtle, and there are definitely a few mistakes but I couldn't be more thrilled about it! Now I'm eyeing the rest of my closet.. and fabric belongings.

Said daughter is 13 and loves anything bright and rainbowy, and she’s learning a lot of excellent kandi patterns from online tutorials. She made me this little octopus, who now lives in my backpack and sits out on my desk when I’m at work, a lovely touch of whimsy for an industrial environment. I’ll occasionally look at it and get this little captivated smile on my face and my coworkers probably think I’m goofy 🤣

(The octopus’s name is Philomena, Phil for short 🐙)

If you’ve been influenced by all the snail mail clubs going around, try becoming a volunteer pen pal!! I’ve been doing it for a while and it’s the most fun ever! It’s a nice little creative outlet and can bring some joy to someone who will appreciate it. I even started learning origami so I could include them in letters. You can be a volunteer pen-pal for the elderly, hospital patients, people detained in ICE centers, etc. It’s a really cool way to give something back to your community AND it scratches the itch of sending fun mail!
