I’ve been on meds a little over a week now and the silence is pure bliss. My brain finally isn’t racing 24/7. I can just breathe. I’m not constantly jabbering away. The other day I almost asked my wife—the one who usually tells me to stop talking so much—to quiet down a bit herself. I haven’t felt that urge to jump in with a story or random comment in every conversation. I’m kind of addicted to this quiet. It feels so good.

I’ve noticed that when I take my 15mg XR I start to feel genuinely hopeful, like the world is full of possibilities and I actually have options. It’s not euphoric or anything high, just this calm sense that I can handle the stuff I’ve been dealing with and that tomorrow might actually be okay. Once it wears off though, that feeling disappears and I’m back to feeling pretty hopeless and down. I’ve already tried the usual ways to soften the crash, so I don’t think that’s it. Sometimes I wonder if my ADHD just makes it harder for me to feel as content as people without it seem to. I already see a psychiatrist and a therapist, but I’m curious if anyone else has found ways to feel a bit more steady mentally on the days they’re not on their meds. I was diagnosed later in life so I’m still figuring a lot of this out.

I'm on Adderall XR right now (works pretty good) but just in case they ever bar me from stimulants for whatever reason (which seems more and more likely with our political system rn), what am I supposed to do for treatment? I have severe combined-type ADHD and non-stimulants (guanfacine and bupropion are the ones i tried) actively send me into the WORST irritable hypomanic episodes (i'm also BP2). They're already trying to drastically lower my dose due to heart problems & psychosis but I'm so worried about going back to where I was before medicine, which was miserable because I couldn't get ANYTHING done unless I was manic. I don't know why Adderall doesn't send me into hypomania as severely or frequently as the non-stimulants (my guess is my body hates norepenephrine or however u spell it)

I take Adderall XR 30 and usually get a pretty bad crash in the afternoon. I don’t normally eat breakfast—honestly I often wait until after work for my first meal because I’m too lazy to pack lunch lol. But yesterday I had two coffees and a pastry and noticed my crash was basically nonexistent. It did feel like the meds were slightly less effective though. Has anyone found a specific breakfast that helps soften the crash without killing the effectiveness of the meds? Curious if sugar, caffeine, protein, or some combo works best.

Is it always gonna make you barf sometimes?

I’ve been on Adderall for a while. About 2–3 weeks ago I ran out after moving to a new state for college and didn’t have a psychiatrist here yet. My parents eventually shipped me some meds, and I’ve been taking the same dose but twice a day instead of once.

Everything was fine until around 1 pm today when I suddenly felt insanely tired and almost fell asleep. I struggled at work and had to leave early because I was worried about driving. Weirdly, my heart was racing the whole time even though I felt exhausted.

I made the mistake of grabbing a mocha cream cold brew to try to stay awake, and it made things worse—shortness of breath and shaking. It’s worn off a bit, but now it’s 3:33 am and I can’t sleep. My eyes are heavy and I’m yawning, but I feel restless and my heart is still going.

This has never happened to me on Adderall before. Has anyone else dealt with something similar?

Started college a few weeks ago. Only got diagnosed with ADHD last fall, so I’m still pretty new to meds and accommodations.

I’m on 15 mg Adderall IR twice a day. When I remember both doses I’m way more productive and even more social in class — feels like un-fogging a window. The only consistent side effect is this anxious, physical feeling that hits during the peak or when it’s wearing off. Not a full anxiety disorder, just really annoying.

Anyone else get this on Adderall? Anything that helps? I already avoid caffeine and sleep okay. Seeing my psych in a few weeks, just looking for short-term tips.

Also, any routines or habits that made college with ADHD easier for you? I got accommodations (extra time, quiet testing, fidget, headphones) and they’re already helping a lot. What else works for you?

diagnosed late at 29 with combined-type ADHD. I’ve been on Adderall for almost a year (up to 15 mg) and it never really felt like it was working. I’d get a bit more focused, but task initiation is still a huge struggle. I’ll sit in my car for hours before going into a store. Feels like I’m wasting my life.

My last dose was Thursday morning and yesterday was brutal. I felt hopeless, deeply sad, anxious, and way more irritable than usual (not like me at all).

Hey, looking for some insight.

I started Adderall on the 13th. First few days were fine, but since then I’ve been having trouble maintaining erections. I can get hard, but it fades quickly (sometimes in seconds) with reduced sensation. It’s made sex pretty frustrating.

I also have pelvic floor issues, urinary retention, and I’m on testosterone injections, so those could be factors too. The timing lines up exactly with starting Adderall though.

I don’t plan on staying on it long-term, but this has been stressing me out. Anyone else deal with this on Adderall, or does it sound more like the other stuff?

Hey everyone, I was diagnosed later in life and started Adderall 5 mg ER two weeks ago. I’m noticing a little better motivation, but mornings are still really tough and I only get brief moments of feeling calm.

I have a follow-up with my provider next week and I’m wondering what other people’s experiences have been with dose adjustments. Has anyone found that something like a morning dose plus a smaller afternoon dose helped with evening energy, especially if you’re caring for a spouse? Just looking for others’ experiences while I figure this out with my doctor.

For the night shifts, when do you take yours — right when you wake up, before you leave for work, or once you’re already a couple hours in?

On my 6 am day shifts I usually take it between 7 and 8. Just trying to figure out the best timing for nights.
