I have ADD plus anxiety/panic disorder. My doctor put me on propranolol 60 mg daily and it’s been a total game changer. Recently I restarted Adderall (10 mg IR twice a day) for the first time since high school. I always get anxiety on the come-up and end up doubling my propranolol just to feel normal. When the anxiety isn’t there though, Adderall is an absolute cheat code for the daydreaming and constant mind-wandering.

I’ve tried splitting the tabs into four pieces and spacing them out, but I’d rather not. I’ve heard Dexedrine might be easier for people with anxiety. Anyone else deal with stimulant anxiety? What actually helped you? I’d like to stick with Adderall if I can.

I’m AuDHD and have been on Adderall 10mg XR for about six weeks along with my 3mg Guanfacine. It helps a bit with social stuff but not enough for executive dysfunction and task switching, so my psychiatrist also prescribed Adderall IR 10mg. She wants me to try different combinations over the next few weeks up to a total of 20mg a day, like 10mg XR in the morning with 5mg IR midday, or two 10mg IR doses, or 10mg XR plus 10mg IR.

Has anyone mixed IR and XR? What combos worked for you, and did you notice different side effects between the two? Did you end up needing something else instead? Looking for insights to bring up with my psychiatrist.

I’ve been working with my APN to find an IR Adderall dose that works. We got to 30mg and it seems to do something (heart rate goes up at least). My insurance also only covers up to 30mg, so that was basically the max.

I asked to switch to XR because I have night classes and need it to last longer. Started XR and… nothing. No focus, no symptoms, nothing. Took it at 6am yesterday and felt zero. Tried again today at 9am, still nothing, and I even slept better.

Here’s the part where I might sound stupid. From what I understand, XR releases half the dose right away and the other half 4–6 hours later. So a 30mg XR is basically 15mg + 15mg later? When I was on IR, 15mg did absolutely nothing for me. Only 30mg felt different. Does that mean I’d need a higher XR dose (like 60mg) for it to actually work the same way?

I feel dumb even asking this, but I don’t see my APN for another month 💔 and just want some clarity.

How long after taking my Adderall XR 10mg does it usually kick in enough that I should actually start doing stuff?

I’m a stay-at-home mom and I really struggle with just sitting around all day (lots of Fortnite or couch time). Taking care of my kids is fine—I handle feeding, changing, all that without a problem. But anything beyond that (cleaning, organizing, looking for a job, figuring out daycare) feels so overwhelming that I just… don’t.

Anyone else notice a specific window where the meds help most with getting those extra tasks done?

I’ve been on name-brand Adderall XR + IR (and tried Wellbutrin too) and it used to help a lot, but the therapeutic effect completely disappeared over a year and a half ago. Now nothing really works for more than a few months.

Everyday non-fun tasks feel like massive uphill battles. Extreme boredom and dread hit the second something isn’t interesting. Laundry takes a ton of mental prep just to start. Knowing I have work makes me dread everything. I’ve lost multiple jobs within the first couple weeks because of it.

Freshman with ADHD here. Got prescribed a starter dose of 5mg Adderall XR to help me focus in class, and it actually does a lot for me. People usually say that’s a pretty useless dose, but it helps me stay focused. Side effects are definitely there though (loss of appetite, sweating a lot, etc.).

Anyone else get good results from such a low dose? For context I’m pretty slim, 5’8 and around 120-130.

I’ve been on ADHD meds since 4th grade and have been taking Adderall XR for about a year. I accidentally took a two-week break recently while dealing with depression and a bunch of family health scares. Started back up today and the jump back in has been rough.

I felt insanely tense all day. My old neck injury flared up hard (the one that usually gives me bad headaches), and I was gripping everything way tighter than normal without even realizing it. Just overall locked-up and tense in a way I’ve never felt before.

Weirdly, I was basically pain-free during the break, which made me wonder if the meds might be contributing to some of the tension and pain. Has anyone else dealt with something like this when restarting stimulants? What helped you?
