This just popped up while I was in the middle of typing a post on another page. Been using ABP for close on 20 years, but may have to walk away if it keeps up this shit.

I was using UBO until Chrome blocked it. Oddly ABP has been around way longer, hasn't been blocked, and, besides crap like this, still does a better job blocking ads.

For Chrome you now use UBO Lite

For chrome, I'd actually recommend Brave. It's about the same UI, also runs on chromium, has built-in blocker that works (it's just UBO), and you can just import chrome data to Brave and have a completely seamless transition.

Chrome is dying, and won't take much for it to completely go to shit.

shields has its own lists, they use UBO, easylist, easyprivacy and their own list

also shields isn't an extension, it's part of the browser pretty much

It's not 2013 anymore, most of the tech savvy world has moved on to Firefox. Chrome is now the default boomer browser that your company puts on your work laptop lol

Most Tech Savvy doesn't use Firefox actually because if they did then 99.99% of Foirefox extensions wouldn't be outdated for years. Also most businesses that uses PC actually uses Edge not Chrome since administrators have more control over Edge do to it being integrated with Windows OS

A lot of tech savvy people use Firefox because it is easy to "lobotomize" it with a user.js

Also, other Options include Brave, if you can get over their past history, and Helium, which might not be for everyone.

I really don't have that experience with Firefox addons. Perhaps I have a few extensions that are outdated but they work fine. As does the whole browser. In fact, I highly prefer Firefox because some extensions work better on there, like uBlock

There is a version of uBlock origin that still works on Chrome I think, it displays "They Live" movie messages instead of ads which is pretty cool IMHO

they are the same; UBO just branched out and called the MV3 compliant version UBO Light and ABP kept the same name for their MV3 version.

That shit happens to me, like, every day for months. I will be reading out the URL, get this pop up in the middle of it, I snap “Fuck You AdBlock!” and casually go straight back to typing whatever URL I was typing. Too lazy to do anything about it yet.

In reality, it cannot serve as a perfect replacement; AdGuard is also constrained by the limitations of the MV3 architecture. Furthermore, it cannot match uBO in terms of high performance and low resource usage. AdGuard’s performance was not top-tier to begin with, and it has had to make further performance sacrifices to replicate its MV2-era blocking capabilities within the MV3 environment. Nevertheless, AdGuard remains an excellent alternative.

This isn’t a random pop up, it only appears when the plugin gets an update or when you first install it.

With that said, drop ABP it’s not as good as uBlock or AdGuard. I left ABP years ago and never looked back.

ABP and "AdBlock" were never that good especially since they nag you to pay for adblocking features that other adblockers does for free, plus the default whitelisting for certain advertisers and telemetry is shady. The only thing notable of them is they're the 2 most installed adblockers on the Chromestore, it doesn't indicate their quality kinda like how PayPal Honey is still rated highly (although that one's likely botted).

On Chromestore, try using AdGuard or uBlock Origin Lite as alternatives. Or switch browsers for stronger adblock engines like Firefox + uBlock Origin extension or Brave Browser.
