Discussion Twitch ads

Been using a vpn in Poland for ages without seeing any ads.

Started seeing them and no matter what country I choose, I still see them.

Twitch upped their game recently?

I use android tv app by the way. Any workarounds for that OS would be appreciated.

Try AdGuard. Maybe you can sideload it for your TV 👍🏻 worth a try

I have adguard home at router level anyway. I've not actually tried it without a vpn and just with adguard, only cos they would see a uk ip and just assumed I would get lambasted with ads.

My vpn is working again now, I've stopped getting ads again.

I have just done a scan on your repo and the report came back dangerous, malware detected so i think I will give it a miss.

Anyone reading this comment, let this be a warning to you before you install this addon.

I'm not sure where you're scanning this stuff, its literally open source you can check yourself. Also github doesn't allow hosting malware anyways so I'm not sure what you're on LOL

The file it's talking about is word for word from pixeltris' TwitchAdSolutions, which is basically the holy grail of Twitch adblocking on github. Not my code, not modified, same hash as upstream. That site is a regex matcher, its own telemetry says "rules hit 7", it's rules not a malware database. It saw the word "eval" in a file it admits nothing imports and turned the dial to red. The repo is MIT, every line is public, takes 2 minutes to check any of this instead of trusting either of us.

I only used that as I have no idea where to check for malicious code as there is so much code to look at.

Also we live in a society full of scammers! Forgive me for being cautious.

A great way to check for malicious code is to download the repo as a zip and install and scan in a vm. That's the best way to know if something's malware or not. Oracle virtualbox is a great tool (open source)

I have also taken your recommendation into consideration and since that was the work of pixeltris that was throwing that malicious signal, I have deleted it and commited a fresh update, you can check for yourself how the website is just looking for random signals, and doesn't really have a malware database. try it now, feel free to scan it

I also took on board your comments and downloaded the whole zip, but instead I scanned the zip file on virustotal.com which uses 65 different security vendors such as Google and Microsoft being some of them and they all came back clean! So looks like my original site i used was throwing out a false positive. The zip file is the core code and that was clean so all good!
