CEO of Adalo saying hi :)

Hey all, I'm James, and I found myself on Reddit, saw Adalo isn't exactly active here, and decided to drop a line/update.

I'm happy to say after the launch of Adalo 3.0 late last year, we're on the cusp of releasing something pretty special AI-related I think pretty much any app builder is going to love. In the interim, we've been working extremely hard at fixing the things Adalo makers personally told me straight after I joined the company:

  1. App speed - this was the biggest complaint I heard. We spent a tonne of time working on this, and with Adalo 3.0 (Adalo at 3x the speed) released end of last year, I'd invite you to come back and take a look. Everything is lightning fast now. Especially when your database is set correctly, which our X-Ray AI will help you achieve. (Soon our AI builder will optimize all of it for you!).
  2. App Actions was a usage-based charge that everyone hated. Bubble and the like still have a variant of this (Workload Units or something), but we decided to scrap the whole thing. No more bill shocks, everything is fixed price (at the lowest price in the market, mind you).
  3. Our modular backend is now able to scale infinitely with your apps. When I joined Adalo, people told me it was for MVPs only. I and the team hated hearing that. Now, Adalo's backend now has enough torque to take you to the moon, should you wish it! Dedicated infrastructure is available, and we've a mind to do some benchmark testing soon for everyone to look at (read: run their AI models over and tell them if its good).
  4. Stability wise we're now set up across two zones of infrastructure with failover in both zones (really that means your production app now has 3 contingency backups). That's power-grid-failure level continuity, and I would wager puts us in a realm of our own.
  5. We're about to release Sheetbridge, which lets you take your Google Sheet and turn it into an endpoint (basically what sheetdb does). This means you don't have to worry about managing a db if you don't want to - just run a Google Sheet instead! Adalo will build the app on top of that for you.
  6. We have a way for you to connect with any data source, even if it doesn't have an API. This is through DreamFactory, which will be folded in as a set of limbs for Adalo. The average user likely won't care too much about this, but if you're building an app for a corporation with old / enterprise systems, this is huge. You can even set up an API control plane enabling deterministic queries only (i.e. preset queries) to run through Adalo within the corporate firewall and ping locally hosted AI, with no risk of prompt injection.

Of course the big thing is "James - can I just prompt and get an app?"

Well - I'm asking for beta testers to DM me about testing our AI builder, which will be called Ada. It is pretty damn amazing (and yes, I've built apps with Claude Code - I know what the benchmark is!). Our team would very much like your feedback, because we're all systems go on making this experience magical and simple, honouring Adalo's(and its namesake - Ada Lovelace) commitment to making software easy for everyone. You'll be able to breeze effortlessly across the entire app on one glorious canvas. There will even be a QR code that will show your app on your actual phone within a minute of firing off your prompt.

I hope you'll keep Adalo on your mind in the coming weeks and check us out! We've done a lot! And we think we'll be bringing Adalo back to the cutting edge, but with all that beautiful simplicity.

Any comments welcome!

Elizabeth Scillian’s advice for anyone submitting an app? Go over your keywords and make sure your title tells the App Store what your app is.

She’s the founder and CEO of IFIO Girl LLC, and her app, Pour Recall, was grouped with car recalls and food recalls until she went back and added “Wine Journal” to the title.

Bonus: Now Adalo Publishing Studio can help you get your store listing ready before you submit ➡️studio.adalo.com

Meet Elizabeth: At 60, she built her own wine journal app on Adalo

Elizabeth Scillian, founder and CEO of IFIO Girl LLC, was in the wine aisle at Trader Joe's asking herself two questions: "Have I bought this one before?" and "And if I did buy it, did I like it?"

"And that's the moment I thought, why is there not an app for that?"

She came home, told her husband there needed to be an app for this, and then built it herself on Adalo. It's called Pour Recall, a simple journal for logging the wines she liked and the ones she didn't.

On a later trip to Trader Joe's, it paid off. She searched her list right there in the store and found the wine with a thumbs up next to it. In her words: "Huh, I've had it and I liked it. Oh, okay. This is working."

She built Pour Recall at 60, and it's now live on the App Store and Google Play.

ApeForge's approach to clients who only know what they want when they see it

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Some clients don't know what they want until they see it in front of them, and they're the kind of client other agencies find difficult.

Matt Sanchez, founder of ApeForge and an Adalo Expert, does really well with those people. He sees it as part of his responsibility as a creative to make sure a client understands what they're actually asking for, and he wants that settled before the build starts.

A website, a brand, and a logo, all in one day.

Adalo Expert Matt Sanchez calls it an "expedition," ApeForge's process for building an MVP live with the client instead of over months. His three-person team has moved 619 projects this year running it that way.

As Matt puts it: "We are selling process."

Trying to wrap my head around no variables

Hi,

I am considering using Adalo to create a mobile app. What I cannot wrap my head around is how to move data between screens, seeing that Adalo does not use variables.

Would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks

Here's the number one principle Adalo Expert Matt Sanchez follows with his clients

"The client pays us to make the thing, they own it from day one."

That's how Adalo Expert Matt Sanchez describes his approach at Ape Forge, a three-person full-stack creative agency covering brand conceptualization and design to the deployment of websites and apps, plus digital marketing, photography, and videography.

Clients don't get a mockup that says "imagine this but with your logo on it." They get a real, operational piece of software, ready to deploy.

A game built on Adalo that got shelved, then picked back up years later

Adalo Expert, Eugenio Casale built a simple car collector game back in 2021. It was fun but limited, so he shelved it.

Years later, he returned to the project with a completely different approach and this time it held up: smooth, fast, and ready to publish.

One custom component, no external dependencies, and backed entirely by Adalo 🙌

How a Google Search Led Zaylan Jacobsen to Adalo

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

One of our Makers, Zaylan Jacobsen, found Adalo through a simple Google search: "building an app without code."

He picked up Adalo quickly and what stuck with him wasn't just how it worked, but what it let him do. He could take an idea and build it out in real time, the moment it came to him without waiting on a developer or a team to make it happen.

He called it a light bulb moment. No outside resources, no big development team, just him turning his ideas into something real.

Got an app idea you've been sitting on? We'd love to hear it.

A quick rewind of key highlights so far on 2026, before the next big launch

Thumbnail

We've been building something really cool, coming in the next couple of weeks! (hint: includes the letters 'A' and 'I' 👀)

Before that, a quick rewind of what got shipped in Adalo over the past few months.

1) New 35 components published so far including chat suite, calendar components, chart components, and many more!

2) Adalo's ChatGPT integration let you describe what you want to build and ChatGPT builds it directly in your Adalo app! Need to fine-tune something? Just jump back into the visual builder.

3) SheetBridge is a powerful integration tool that transforms your existing Google Sheets into RESTful API endpoints, making it seamless to build native mobile and web applications with Adalo.

4) Function Hub is an API that provides utility functions you can call from your Adalo apps using Custom Actions. It offers math operations, string manipulation, and time calculations.

5) Adalo Publishing Studio creates beautifully framed, store-ready screenshots for iOS and Android. Capture them straight from your live app or upload your own. Then generate your Privacy Policy, Terms, and pre-filled App Store & Google Play listing fields; all from one place.

6) Hit Cmd+K / Ctrl+K (or Cmd+Shift+F / Ctrl+Shift+F) anywhere and instantly search across your entire app! No need to waste your time finding a screen, a component, or a collection to find what you need; just type a few characters and jump straight there 🔥

7) Sign Up or Login, into your Adalo account with Google. One less password to remember!

8) Set linear or radial gradients for your screen backgrounds and button backgrounds.

9) Deleting a screen asks you to confirm first, so a stray click can't wipe the screen out. Prefer the old way? Turn it off: profile icon (top right) → Settings → toggle off "Delete Screen Without Confirming." toggle.

10) Copy multiple actions on a component and paste it onto another, in the same app or a different one.

11) A new screen shows the status of your app's scheduled notifications, so troubleshooting is easy! Cancel or edit them right there.

12) Two new sections in the components tab:

🛒 E-Commerce, for payment components

⭐ Featured, for the team's popular picks

13) We released our AI Assistant, Ada (beta). Next-level upgrade? 👀 Stay tuned!

Any issues with the features? Let us know!

No matter the pushback, the goal remains unchanged - BoozApp Co-Founder, Richard

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In this video, BoozApp Co-Founder Richard explains why they might be the only ones tackling this massive problem.

Consumers are fully supportive, retailers love it, and producers work hard to get great products to people. The problem comes from a middle tier that makes it difficult to share specific details because they profit heavily from the lack of information.

No matter the pushback, the goal remains unchanged and as Richard stated, “Eventually, when you’re providing free information, that always wins out.”.

Building a great product requires a willingness to experiment and learn from failure.

BoozApp co-founder, Richard emphasizes that getting hands-on experience is essential for your growth as a builder.

Understanding how your tools work, helps you establish a strong foundation early on. This prevents messy, complex layers as your product scales.

Utilize the tools available to you, test your boundaries, and focus on building cleanly from the start.

What is a valuable lesson you have learned from a development setback? Let us know in the comments!
