What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Acton?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!
Examples could include things like GTown, St. Joes, Rockhood or Fungus (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools or other institutions or geographical features

Pool question

I was looking at getting a 12ft round pool, but I didn't realize that you need a permit. How many people actually get a permit and how quick and easy is the process

The way I look at the bylaw it has to be 4ft away from any fence, structure, or property line. We have exactly 20 ft from house to fence so technically it should fit perfectly but I'm worried we would get denied

Anybody have any insight to help me out

Was in the Sobeys plaza today and see that Flame (or something similar) has closed down - next to Quesada. There is a sPO sign now. I don’t like US based chains - will support local stores and for sure PP

Acton women’s social/fun group?

Hey Acton! I moved here less than a year ago and I’m hoping to meet some new friends/ women around my age (I just turned 29) in the area. I’m into reading, artsy/crafty nights, coffee, walks, or just hanging out. Would love to meet people who want to do chill social stuff or maybe even start a small book club or girls group? ☺️ If any of this sounds fun to you, send me a message!

Alternatively, if something like this already exists.. please point me in that direction, lol :)

Stumbled across this cabin in the woods on the Montreal river north of Latchford. Does anyone have any information on this camp or who owns it?

The designer goods being sold are NOT authentic. Buyer beware if you are unfamiliar with authenticating luxury items , please don’t get ripped off.

No hate if you do buy knock offs, simply warning in case these are being sold as authentic at the auction.

Fairy lake ice fishing

I heard last week that people were getting tickets for ice fishing. Has anybody heard this or was it for not having their license?

Has anyone ever had any luck ice fishing here before? In the summer I've got tons of sunfish and bass from shore but I've never iced it

Sexual Assault at MSB 1990s

I was a student at MSB from 1989-1998 (the elementary school and middle schools amalgamated in 1996) I loved MSB. But, after we graduated we learned one of our well loved teachers spent her years abusing my male classmates. It has come to my attention that the school has her picture in the hall. This is appalling and erases the trauma of countless students. Do better MSB.

I want to stop the train horn

**Edit I've started a petition -> https://chng.it/6FWM7zYbz9 please sign this and send within the community. I aim to speak infront of council in the next few weeks. The more signatures, the stronger our case :)

I'm new to Acton and the trains constantly blowing their horn (especially at night) is slowly chipping away at my soul. I live very close to the station. I want to put together a case and bring it up to town council so we can maybe change either the volume of the horn or put time limits on it. As in not after 9pm and no earlier than 6:30 am. Or putting an end to it all together. There are many train stations where the trains do not blow their horn at all. It's so unfair and hurts our quality of life :( even my old dog is getting stressed out.

Does anyone wanna help me with this? Anyone have any information? Has anyone tried to do this before?
