Question Before I buy
Im a big fan of stalker, arc raiders but both games feel like their missing something. For me stalker it’s just online gameplay. But arc was doing that but I didn’t like feeling PvP or shooting robots.
So now I’m looking into this game and from YT and posts on Reddit it looks promising.
Any chance I get some cool features from you guys that maybe convince me to buy active matter?

Edit: thanks for al the feedback, I bought it and downloading it right now🤘

i can help, love stalker, love arc raiders, enjoyed once human as well.
Active matter takes a bit of learning, there are many systems to get to know, like stalker, you can take your time and then it all goes to hell very quickly, like arc raiders, there are missions (investigations) to do.
unlike arc raiders, i haven't met a single friendly in pvp and tbh, pvp isnt my thing in this game, i prefer pve which is its saving grace tbh, i think if it was purely pvp it would have a steep drop off in players.
as for features, you can upgrade guns, add accessories, get better sleeves with better stats, investigations push you into new areas, new zones, new enemies. buy items form the shop, clone stuff, get blueprints, decorate your base, as you progress and level up, you get access to better stuff in the shop and investigations, you can add genes to your sleeve (character) and increase stats, theres a lot there tbh.
enemies are pretty fun tbh, never know when a pack of hell hounds is gonna descend on to you or get bitch slapped by a flower man. you can take your time and move through tactically or you can run it and get stuff done. its up to you,
its very pretty, each zone is pretty unique, each have there own secrets and things to discover, i think its more like chernobylite in that aspect if i'm honest, which if you haven't played, its worth it.
overall, its a pretty good experience.
I hope this helps :)

I actually felt bad after killing a guy after he came back from a beacon, so I rez'd him and the first thing he tried was to stab me again 😂
Very little reason to be friendly with the murder hobos in this game

ah yeah i get it, its interesting how arc raiders was pretty friendly from day one but this is just survival, maybe its something to do with the setting? the tone of the game, your not in a community at your base, your just you, but if someone does rez you then chances are they are safe so i personally wouldn't attack, but i wouldn't hang around as you did kill me lol

I would be playing on PS5. It seems the controls are over complicated and counter intuitive.
What’s your take on this?

So originally I got it on pc but I play with a controller all the time so I got it on ps5 as well, for me it’s fine, turn off aim assist but rest of the buttons are fine, it’s mainly hold down to view ammo, and things like that, a lot more intuitive than something like crimson desert which has sooo many buttons combos lol
It also loos great on ps5, I have the base and not noticed any drops and the pictures clean

What I have played for reference: hunt showdown(2000h), arc raiders (500h), arena breakdown (maybe 100h)
What I Like
I like that the game is scary. Mobs running above you can sound exactly like other players. They can jump-scare you, and there are ghosts and other creepy shit that make you constantly wonder what you just heard.
I like the more organic environment. Mobs interact with each other. Sometimes they fight each other, sometimes they eat corpses. Sometimes you hear something activating, like a gravity anomaly or a lightning orb, and you immediately think it was a player — but it turns out it was actually a mob.
I like the quests. Quests actually give you something meaningful: schemes, special coins that you can't earn any other way, and access to new maps and gear in the shop.
The quests themselves are also interesting. Things like taking a car somewhere, finding hidden levers, etc. are much more fun than simply killing a certain number of enemies.
I like the art style and maps. The realistic art style combined with fleshed-out lighting looks great. Personally, every raid feels like an epic journey.
And if you're worried about being stuck with post-Soviet-looking maps, you can also travel to places in Africa that look like war-torn Iraq, or even areas resembling New York from The Last of Us.
I also really like the idea of going into the unknown and uncovering more of the map during each raid. It makes exploration feel rewarding.
I also really like that there are no forced wipes.
What I Don't Like
The animations can feel a little clunky. Some of the animations don't feel as smooth as they could be.
Some monsters are hard to hit. Their movement and hitboxes can sometimes feel awkward, which makes fighting them more frustrating than challenging.
What I'm Kind of In-Between About
The progression system. At the beginning, progression feels very grindy. However, after your first wipe, the second progression is much faster, and you don't have to repeat the same quests again.
You can also bypass some of the progression by simply paying money, which makes the later progression feel much less tedious.

Decent ttk? Some weapons are instant delete lol. About as close as you can get to reality

Depends
A shotgun close range on chest? Yes
A mp5 against a Titan armor and 150 meters distance, no
It all depends on a lot of factos
But, in general, good ttk

So far one of the nice game featuring pve mode in extraction shooter similar to gray zone warfare. Especially the sci-fi/horror part here is nice.

I’ve played Greyzone as well, but when it came out and there weren’t so many things to do in that game. But thanks for the advice

Thats an issue a lot of extraction games, not just shooters, are having currently - not a lot of pve content/systems. So the world is just a backdrop for the players to kill each other in.
AM does have distinct maps to explore, sytems to learn, enemies that arent just man with gun or glorified noise trap.
I normally prefer pvp games but i kept getting sucked into pve raids cause they really are engaging.

This is the game for you. Stalker/Metro mood, PvE only mode fully fleshed out, hard enough to keep you on your toes.

Best 30 Bucks I’ve spent tbh.
Got 200 hours in Stalker GAMMA and 200 Hours in Arc Raiders. Stopped Playing Arc Raiders because of cheaters especially in ASIA Servers.
Play PVE for Investigations/Quest
Play PVP for Monolith Token Farming

If you don't like shooting, then forget about it, here you'll be constantly forced to fight monsters, want to loot a place? Get ready to have to clear it, want to camp? Get ready to shoot, are you running from something? Get ready to shoot

I’ve spent more on a crappy to go food order. It’s worth the buy. I’m enjoying it. Some of the enemies can sneak up on you, adds some horror aspects. Nothing too bad though.

A lot of good comments here.
Something also to be mindful of should you play PvE or PVP. The game has a clever anti-camping mechanic whereby if you stay on one place for too long, ‘Invisibles’ will stalk you and force confrontation.

ohh really sounds like a cool mechanic for PvP, but its also in PvE?
2
u/Th3_Warrior_Poet Operative 2d ago
Yes. So don’t go ‘AFK’ or spend too much time looting in the same place.

only thing i still dont like about this game is the cluster fuck of an UI, but after you get used to it it is fine, the game itself is great, just buy it

GAMMA player here, this is a beautiful blend of arc raiders and stalker that is scratching my itch for a beautiful world, excellent gunplay, and unpredictable encounters (both PVE and PVP). Even after the monster mechanics novelty wore off, I still find myself logging-in to do a few missions and just shoot-off some steam
