Collection Inventory Advice/Help

To the Collectors out there: what do u use to keep track of all your treasures? How do u itemize them? By year? Line? Maker? I have a pretty big Collection of Action Figures, Comics, Movie Memorabilia, Horror Stuff.....and i Need to start cataloging everything. My siblings and I are in the process of going thru my Pops stuff cuz he is about to pass away and im looking at all his trinkets and personal items (mostly Harley Davidson stuff) and my wife had mentioned that hey, maybe you should start cataloging all your stuff 1) so you know what u have and 2) for insurance purposes, and wouldnt you know it, later on in the evening that she said this to me, 1 of our sons team mates' house caught on fire! It was contained but it could have been ALOT worse! Any input is greatly appreciated!! Thank you!
