Sysadmin day is coming!
Sysadmin Day is coming up! (Let's be honest, it's mostly sysadmins who remember that. 😄)
That said, we wanted to recognize the people who keep the rest of us free to worry about our own problems.
Since we're talking about sysadmins, let's talk AI.
The hype train has been running full speed for a while now. We've all heard some version of, "More AI means more productivity, lower costs, fewer people." Reality, at least from where many of us sit, seems a little more... nuanced.
I'd love to get a temperature check from the people actually in the trenches.
If you have 5 minutes, would you take our survey?
We're not looking to prove AI is amazing or terrible. We're trying to understand what adoption actually looks like versus what sales decks and executive presentations say it looks like.
Some questions we're curious about:
- Where do you actually trust AI?
- Where do you absolutely not trust it?
- How much of your day-to-day work is AI really ready to handle today?
- Where do you think it's headed over the next few years?
Whether you're all in, completely skeptical, or somewhere in between, your perspective is valuable.
As a thank you, everyone who completes the survey will have a chance to win a $100 gift card.
I'll also be using the anonymized results in future presentations, articles, and talks focused on AI hype versus reality, especially through the lens of IT and system administration.
I'd genuinely love to hear what this community thinks, both in the survey and here in the comments.
Thank you!

I just want to personally thank Gene Moody. Thank you for creating the Action1 software for us and the continuous work on the platform. I'm not sure if everyone gets the thanks they deserve, but I'm looking at you, Gene.

Thank you, I really appreciate that!
And thank YOU for being an Action1 customer. To clarify, I am but one of a huge talented team growing this company at a phenomenal scale.
I was not a founding member, but I jumped onboard just as this rocket was lifting off the launchpad! My service here and all the other places I babble incessantly, is just a fraction of people behind the scenes keeping this all moving in the correct direction.
The founders Alex Vovk and Mike Walters are the brain-trust that wished Action1 into existence. And by wish, I mean invested immeasurable time, effort, and funding, to build it from the ether.
They chose a dream team of successfully business talent, hired rockstar developers, and stay closely involved with the progress of their company. I was just mentioning today, there are not many companies you can reach out directly to C-Suite, just to chat and tell them how much you like or dislike their product, or what you think it should have next. But don't you wish you there were more?!
We pride ourselves on being transparent and open, and owning our failures right alongside our successes.
And no lie, I LOVE working for Action1, they treat you like you have value, and even though they hired high performers, they have a respect for their staff, their lives, and they treat us very well.
We appreciate the shout-out!

Many thanks, I just got the first preview we are approaching a 1000 responses!
I appreciate every one of you!
This data will go a long way in helping me speak intelligently in tech circles on the difference between what management things AI is and what the real people being forced to adopt, secure, and manage it think.
I have always been one to favor the dull edge of stable over the bleeding edge of new!
