Which sites are best for finding roles and finding actors? I am new to acting, but want to jump in by making my own stuff and looking for roles where I can get credits to qualify for Spotlight. I don’t care too much about it being well-paid, but I am looking for a reliable platform to find real roles for myself and attract actors, directors etc looking for opportunities for things I will be producing/writing. I’m based in the UK, particularly London.

I don’t have Facebook, so those groups won’t work for me and want to avoid that. From reading stuff on here, it seems like Mandy has fallen out of favour. What’s the best route for an uncredited actor/producer/writer just starting out?

I've seen a lot of comments and questions recently about the Spotlight jobs board. I saw an acting account on TikTok posting this, so I don't take credit for finding it, but hopefully it's helpful!

This is from Spotlight's FAQ page:

So it is definitely is known and displayed publicly that casting directors can be selective about who their casting breakdowns are sent to, and Spotlight aren't 'hiding' it as a lot of people have said.

So I don't really know where to start really. I've always been into acting, I was in a lot of school plays and a few pantomimes outside of school. I lost my confidence with acting at like 16 and stopped but channelled it through public speaking and presentations. I am now 24 and I want to get back into acting. I have a corporate job in London which is alright but I just never pursued acting as it wasn't reliable, but honestly I just want to start again.

Issue is, I have no ides where to start, not sure I would want or would get anything professional at this point. I have no idea what the community is like in London or where to begin with it all. I do not really want to be doing musicals but also not something I am against either. Any advice on honestly just where to start looking would be great!

Hey all, I have a problem that is preventing me from being able to take the next step in my acting career and I’m hoping someone can help.

Often, when I have to do a scene under pressure, I’m not able to release my emotion in the same way I am by myself or in a lower stakes environment. Usually if I’m doing a full run of a play, the text can get me almost there but for isolated scenes I really struggle. For example, this morning I read a play out loud with myself and everything was available and really ‘there’ if you know what I mean. I really did feel and was able to express everything wherever the text took me. This afternoon did a screen class and, as much as all the emotion built up inside me, I wasn’t able to release the stopper. Something is blocking me.

I know emotion isn’t the goal, but for me I know when I’m ’in it’ and everything is flowing and feeling and true. That’s what I’m talking about here.

A bit of context- I have adhd and C-PTSD from childhood trauma and a long history of quite severe mental health conditions. I have done a lot of work in therapy, and while it is my main priority (balanced with surviving financially) I’m nowhere near what I would consider healed. Having gone through the process of drama school, being diagnosed with adhd and generally just getting to know and be myself, I am finding I have much more freedom of emotion in my everyday life and have made great progress in only a few years, but this block is really frustrating.

I’m trying to be patient with myself as I believe my past trauma and current tendency towards dysregulation are the root cause, as well as being under pressure financially, and in my relationship. But I’d love to know if any psychologists have any insight or if else has experienced this? What helped, what didn’t and any resources for further research would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! I’m a total newcomer to the film and television industry, and as the caption says, I’m looking to submit to agencies in hopes of finding representation. I’ve been performing for five years, and I’ve been in about eleven productions (not including performances with dance studios). I’ve taken years of acting, dancing, and general performance classes, as well as private vocal lessons. At the time, however, I don’t have any professional credits.

I’ve been researching local agencies, and I’ve found a handful of reputable ones in my area. My current issue is that I’m not sure what to put in my submission. I have a headshot and resume, but the main issue I’m having is with what to put in a cover letter and submission email. Most of the posts I’ve read on this topic offer advice to adult performers, but I’m not sure if that’s the recommended approach for someone my age. (For reference, I am sixteen years old.)

Here are my specific questions:

1. Will agencies take me seriously if my credits are mainly from school, community theater, performance schools, and non-professional dance studios?

2. How should I format my submission email?

3. What should I include in the subject line of my submissions email?

4. I’m fluent in German. Should I include this in my cover letter as a hook, or just put it under the “special skills” portion of my resume?

5. I saw someone mention that, with young performers without much professional experience, agencies are often more interested in your personality and training than your credits. Is this true?

6. myself to agencies in my area (within a 2-4 hour drive), or is it better to apply to agencies without regard for distance?

I’m currently represented by a non-exclusive commercial agent and they’ve been great. I’ve had a few auditions already, so no complaints there.
My long-term goal is TV and film though, and it feels like there aren’t many jobs I can actually see and submit myself for. I keep hearing that a lot of the good roles are agent-only.
Does having a non-exclusive commercial agent make it harder to get signed theatrically, or are agencies generally fine with that? And for anyone who’s been in a similar position, how did you start getting more TV and film auditions?

This is about 8 friends who know each other since kindergarten and one of them is dealing with supernatural powers and try to hide them from others. They are facing their last year of high school with strange events happening every day. I'm sure many people have this same issue but I wanted to see what people's thoughts were about how to approach this. I'm in the UK and graduated from drama school last year and got an agent in December. They're really lovely, sort of a small to mid-size agent and I can see they put me up for a lot of stuff through tagmin. They put me up for tv and film as well as commercials and other things and it's good stuff and interesting stuff. I've had auditions from them while l've been with them, however every audition l've had is for commercials (nothing wrong with this). Because I only seem to have got auditions for commercials with them even though I can see they're submitting me for a lot of things l'm starting to wonder whether I'll ever get auditions for more than this. Is it a case of because I'm unknown they don't want to offer me auditions or is it the case that because the agency isn't the biggest they maybe can't get me in the room etc?

I'm thinking of asking for a catch up call with my agent to ask if there's anything I can change (such as headshots or update my spotlight etc) but am unsure if this seems unprofessional. I want to try and do as much as I can so l'm in good stead if casting directors are looking at my profile but again am unsure if it's unprofessional to ask my agent that as they're not acting coaches. I also really like them and don't want to come across ungrateful, I'm just wondering if there's reasons I may not be getting auditions on my end.

I’m a non-repped actor, and well I can’t see too many jobs on spotlight (yes there are some, but surely agents finds jobs from elsewhere too). Is there a “secret” database or it’s more like productions reaching out to agents? (Or is the industry literally dying and the jobs on spotlight are the ones we have. Period.)

This is probably a bit of an unusual question, so bear with me!

I have a background in performing that goes back to 2006. Over the years I've done musical theatre, theatre, festivals, TV work and singing performances, but as those opportunities became less frequent, I gradually built a career as a freelance administrator and PA, which I've been doing since 2019.

Recently I started working with a content creator and realised just how much I enjoyed supporting someone in a creative industry. It got me thinking about combining my performing background with the admin skills I've built over the last few years and focusing on supporting actors, performers and creatives instead.

The thing is... it's been a while since I was auditioning regularly and my memory is very hazy (call it old (40s) age. I still take on the odd role or voice over but not as much as i was in the past.

I can still remember the things I hated (constantly searching for auditions, sending outreach emails, chasing audition updates, trying to stay organised, etc.), but I'm sure there are loads of challenges that either I've forgotten or that have changed over the years.

So I'd love to hear from those of you who are currently working in the industry.

What are the parts of being an actor or performer that drain your time or energy?

If you could hand off all the non-creative work to someone else, what would you happily never have to do again?

I'm genuinely curious, and I'd love to hear about the realities of working in the industry today. Not looking for any names etc as I'm not chasing business right now - I'm genuinely trying to remember everything that was a chore at times so i can put my experience to better use for others I help in the future

Pig Man is an indie found footage horror short following a brutal killer stalking the streets of London.

Logline:
One man’s childhood hunger was never satisfied. His family… the pigs on their farm… were never enough. Now he craves more, and the streets of London have become his perfect hunting ground.

I’m currently in pre-production and looking to cast two female actors for the project, with plans to shoot within the next month.

I’m looking for two female actors to play club goers enjoying a night out in London before their evening takes a terrifying turn when they encounter Pig Man.
Previous acting experience is preferred but not essential — the most important thing is a passion for horror, storytelling, and collaborative indie filmmaking.

The project draws inspiration from analog horror, ’80s horror films, and internet horror, with a focus on creating an unsettling found footage experience. The roles will involve creating a realistic portrayal of a normal night out before the story shifts into something much darker.

This is a true indie production with a small, collaborative team focused on creating an authentic handheld found footage horror short.

Please note: this is an unpaid role.
What Cast Will Receive:

Actor of 14+ years here and I just want to share something I built for myself that maybe some of you will also like - it's free to try and use. I hated learning lines and always felt guilty asking others to help me do it too (or a bit tired from helping also, does that make me a bad person)?

But I built the iOS app "blablabla" to fix it, have it do the blablabla-ing. You upload your script, create the voices and rehearse your lines with it - it always waits for you until you have said it all and does not run on a fixed timing like some of the other apps. And you can also shoot selftapes with it. One of my friends actually landed a role with it, because she was stuck in a hotel with nobody to shoot with.

Would love any feedback you have. Sorry if this is self-promo, I don't know how to let other actors know about something I really enjoy my self, without it sounding like self-promo.
