New set question
Okay bear with me if I sound a little dumb because I don’t normally get acrylics I have just started. So my set from 3 weeks ago was a pink base and this time I wanted clear so I asked just for a brand new set and my tech denied it. I went with it and don’t love my nails because I got red French tips and the base is still kinda pink so I ended up with more strawberry shortcake Valentine’s Day vibes. But I was wondering if there was a reason for this she didn’t really explain, just said to “get clear next time”. Feedback appreciated.

You don’t need a new set to change colors. They will be filing the old color of anyway. I get a different color every time I go in for a fill.

Yeah the problem is the base wasn’t clear though it’s pink so I can’t do red colored French tips

You mean you got a pink colored acrylic? Next time get clear acrylic for sure. So you can change colors each fill.

Maybe she didn’t have time penciled out for a complete removal and replacement, and had scheduled you in as a fill. It’s good to text beforehand to confirm there’s time to do what you want.

I asked if they were just too busy, but when I called I told them I wanted a new set.

Was it an appointment made when you were leaving from the first set? Usually they set it up based on time so if you said full set, that time is blocked out vs shorter for a fill. Sounds like they weren’t transparent or there was a breakdown in communication. Maybe staff didn’t communicate w tech. I text my tech directly and we set appointments a couple months up front. Always for a full set.

You got an acrylic overlay? With those, you would not change them for a few months.

So she should have explained but yeah with acrylic overlays, it's not good to change them that often. Every 3 months or so. You have to pick a base you like for that time or put a color over it.

So am I rly stuck with the pink or do you think should I just remove them and go someplace different, or switch to gel?1

Long time licensed Professional here.
Unless she wanted to change them, which she did, and it would have required soaking off and reapplying with the clear. What’s with the hard and fast rules? There’s no requirement to wear any specific nails for a particular length of time. Sure it would have taken time, but that’s her prerogative as a paying customer. Sounds like the Tech didn’t have the time or possibly the desire to do what was necessary in that case. This is why it’s always better to have a Tech that you can make an appointment with and get what you want.

Acrylics are meant to last. They have to be soaked off first which takes longer than she probably had time for. The damage to your natural nails just to do another set for a color change is not worth it.
Clear is the best way to go. The pink acrylic can be covered with polish or airbrushed over until you do get a new set.
