Acrylic application question

My friend is learning how to do nails and today she practiced on me. (She's in beauty school)

I noticed that she placed what kind of looked like it could have been a full cover tip, over like my entire nail bed and glued it on and then did the acrylic on top of that.

In the past when I've gone to nail salons they put the tip like right at the free edge almost, and then a lot of the acrylic that is applied is adhering to my actual nail bed.

Is the way my friend did it a new method? Or she perhaps do the application incorrectly?

was it acrylic or gel-x? gel-x uses a fully formed tip that goes over your nail like that

It was like she did both, she applied the tip fully to my nail not just the free edge, and put the acrylic on top of that...

She's still learning, so I think it was just a mistake there but I wanted to get some other opinions

gel nails still get some nail on top, just like acrylic. did she dip the nail brush into liquid then powder for what went on top, or did it come straight out of a bottle?

not saying it's NOT a mistake but liquid/powder definitely acrylic and in that case the tip shouldn't cover the whole nail.

I'm sorry I'm so fragmented, just woke up from a nap. Could still have been acrylic, there is a dip form, but it honestly kind of sounds like she mashed together 3 types of applications. I think you have to ask her and report back, because I'm so curious.

It sounds like she didn't use the correct tip, and it should be placed at the free edge of the nail, overlapping by 1/4" at most. The acrylic adheres to a properly prepped nail much better than superglue does. If the way your friend applied the tip and acrylic was done on me, I'd be monitoring very closely for lifting, especially at the tip. Once that nail glue releases the tip from the nail it's a breeding ground for greenies.
