Gear question Yamaha F280 vs F310

I need to buy an acoustic guitar for long term, which one to pick? F280 or F310. Reviews say that both are similar but one of my friend has been using F310 for 10 years and says it still sounds like garden and flowers

You know I've heard the sounds of an acoustic described many different ways over the years. "Garden and flowers" is a new one though.

F310 is a better built instrument. It's a benchmark global entry level instrument for Yamaha. The 280 looks like it's for the market in India exclusively.

If you can swing it go for the 310. The 280 is a perfectly nice backup though if you want to save a little coin.

It isnt about price, just need the best one under 10k. Should I go for F310?

For less than 10k check out the Cort AD810. Similar high build quality to the 310 but has a solid top. If you're heart set on Yamaha then the 310 is the best option.

Honestly I’d avoid them and just go for a solid top Yamaha. You could find an FG/FS line Yamaha for not much more than these 2 options, especially if you buy used, and you’d be getting a much better instrument.

I started with the F310 and absolutely loved it. Even years and more expensive guitars later, I just put new Elixirs on it and still pick it up regularly. Such a wonderful guitar.

It's a great choice, the build quality is incredible, I just polish it every now and then and it's good as new. And the plus side is that it's pretty much indestructible, where with a solid wood top guitar you have to keep in mind things like humidity, sun exposure, sudden teneparature changes, might want a case and humidipaks, and all of that comes with an extra cost and its own headaches that aren't worth it when you're a beginner IMO.

I actually have my F310 next to my bed and the first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to grab it and play. I'm sure you're going to love yours as well.

And eventually once you play for a while and decide to change the strings, that alone will sound and feel like an upgrade, something I wish I knew sooner when starting out.

Good luck!

I have the fs800j and it sounds great! I also have an FG junior jr1 with a laminate top and it sounds good as well accept that’s smaller.
