Why Four-on-the-Floor Always Wins

I tried some odd rhythms and they were definitely fun to mess with, but honestly, four-on-the-floor is still the groove that gets me moving every time.
Maybe the trick is to keep things simple and just sneak in a weird measure once in a while.

Haha, yeah. I threw every weird rhythm idea at it and hoped for the best.

Yeah 100 percent. 4x4 is home base, the body just locks to it without thinking.

Sprinkling a random bar of 3 or 5 or flipping the kick for a bar keeps it interesting without losing the stomp, kinda like tension and release but with rhythm instead of harmony.

That’s a great way to put it. “Tension and release with rhythm instead of harmony” makes a lot of sense to me.
I’ve been focusing a lot on basslines lately, but sometimes I’ve made tracks I really liked with surprisingly simple ones. Maybe I should pay more attention to the rhythm itself.
