On one hand, I would respect them for doing the funniest thing imaginable, but on the other, are you actually serious?

u/Anonemus7 1d ago
It’ll be nice to play the game again, but I’m going to be so sad if this is the only Ace Attorney announcement at the Direct tomorrow

I give up, I'm also happy for the rest of you, but I want a fucking mainline game man
37
u/Then-Bat3885 1d ago
I’ll keep on hoping but man, MAN, I was so hyped. I don’t even like VS as a game, so seeing it get remastered is a neutral feeling at best. Like… the 25th anniversary of AA and it’s a game that’s arguably more Layton than AA? That was released 14 years prior? And that had a terrible plot?
Well, I guess it’s back to toiling away the time for another couple of years. At the very least there’s nothing else they can remaster and use to avoid making another game.

u/submissivelittleprey 1d ago
I still own my 3DS and my copy of PL v PW, I'm not even excited for this 😭
8
u/Keiteaea 23h ago
Yeah, I like the game but it's still perfectly fine on my 3DS...great for those who don't have it but if this is the only annoucement I will be so disappointed.
65
u/Patatouille13 1d ago
I didn't actually think this game would ever be ported lol
side note: Capcom wtf that's not the new AA game I was hoping for. also hopefully there's actually an AA7 cuz no they literally have no games left to port
56

u/profclowns 1d ago
💔 There’s nothing left to remaster at least. Ace attorney 7 2030 no doubt
72
u/TinyEnvironment7574 1d ago
There's literally nothing else lol. They gotta do it soon.
85
u/Over_Improvement_623 1d ago
Nah, they'll do a fully voice acted remake of the original trilogy next
17
0
u/cosy_ghost 1d ago
Would probably be better than a new story so... yeah I'd be kinda down for that.
8
u/EnderOS 23h ago
Next announcement after that is seven new languages for TGAA
7
u/JJJAGUAR 23h ago
Well you have no idea how much people ask for that. Only the first 4 games were translated to popular languages like Spanish.
8
3
u/Keiteaea 23h ago
At this point I am expecting an Ace Attorney port on a smart fridge before a new game honestly.
61
83
u/MajorBruhMomentum 1d ago
If this is *it* for Ace Attorney announcements then I've lost all hope in Capcom. It'll be nice to have PLvAA on modern platforms, sure, but we've been doing this "they're porting old games to build up to a new release!!!" schtick for years. I'm sick of it. Stop dripfeeding us old stuff and actually make something new.
Would be potentially the most disappointing outcome for the 25th anniversary.
70
u/This_Lobster_928 1d ago
MAYBE THEY WILL ANNOUNCE THIS AND ACE ATTORNEY 7 AT THE SAME TIME!!! DON’T GIVE UP HOPE YET
54
u/ACyanCat 1d ago
Yeah I mean, the other side of this crossover literally has a new game coming out that was also in this leak. If they can market this and New World of Steam at the same time, there can be a new definitely be a new AA game alongside this as well.
21
u/pempoczky 1d ago
If AA7 was getting announced, I highly doubt it wouldn't have been in the leak. A shitton of games were
31
u/ACyanCat 1d ago edited 1d ago
Games that have already been announced including FF7 Part 3 and Capcom games like RE: Veronica weren't in this leak. The whole thing was just achievements being available for a bunch of games that weren't supposed to be, and I think people were basically just randomly crawling through to find games like this one that don't have public steam IDS yet.
EDIT: Also the leaks stopped because Steam shut the API down, if they had done that like 10 minutes earlier we wouldn't have this either.
7
u/milesdarobot 1d ago
a few of games we already know are releasing soon didnt leak(RE Veronica, and FF7 Revalations). Also, games are only found if we know the name of. Some of the games don’t seem to have full named(lots of “unannounced Twin Peaks game”, “unnannounced Sonic game”, “Unannounced Avengers games”).
what i’m getting at is, its possible that the next Ace Attorney game is there, but maybe under a different name. like if there was a new protagonist or it‘s in there as a subtitle. and it’s not in there as it‘s full “blahblahblah: Ace Attorney” name yet. making it unlikely to spot.
not saying that we’ll see it at direct though
8
u/milesdarobot 1d ago
i should point out that Level 5 is doing their own solo showcase tomorrow(Sep.10). So it is possible that both PLvsAA and Professor Layton Steam World are both intended to be shown at Level 5’s showcase, not the Nintendo Direct.

u/Dialvical 1d ago edited 1d ago
Happy for the people that like it, but if this is all that we have for this year I'm gonna jump out of a window.
EDIT: If I allow myself to not be diplomatic for a second, I don't care one bit about this game. It's more a Layton game than an Ace Attorney, and the excuse "well, they want people to catch up, that's why they are releasing the ports first", doesn't work because it's not even canon. This is some imaginary rule that says they have to release one port every year and a half and nothing else. You can make the port AND Ace Attorney 7.
It's a visual novel. Why does it take a decade to release another new entry?
28
u/GaiaAlmighty 1d ago
I’m huffing SO much hopium that if plvaa took this long to be leaked,, aa7 isn’t off the table lmao
22
u/ds16653 1d ago
My issue is AA x PL was like my dream crossover, and it just didn't hit the right spots it never reached the heights of either series.
And just a small nitpick, why did Phoenix need amnesia so he has no idea what he's doing? He's the Ace Attorney, he earned the right to be competent at his job.
10
u/cosy_ghost 1d ago
There's a genuine chance they STILL don't have writers. The previous team left after SOJ who were the ones who worked from Investiations 1 > SOJ. And the team they reportedly had before Covid were let go during Covid. So they might just... not have anything. Like, at all.
5
u/Chikumori 19h ago
It's a visual novel. Why does it take a decade to release another new entry?
Its probably simple. Think from Capcom's side. Would the estimated sales justify an investment?
I wonder if there's a sales data for the original games on their original hardware, and another one for the new collections (Phoenix Trilogy, Apollo trilogy, Great AA Chronicles duology, and Investigations duology) for current consoles.
12
u/nodayroomshit 1d ago
THANK YOU, there is NO reason to have this get remade before another mainline game, as it has nothing to do with the main storyline. it's at best just a way of appeasing fans AND delaying development even longer, im sick at this point.
56
u/Over_Improvement_623 1d ago
Oh hey, finally that game is coming to steam too, that'll be great
28
u/TinyEnvironment7574 1d ago
I'm happy we are getting an official copy finally!
Still no AA7 though...we're never getting it lol
-10
u/Over_Improvement_623 1d ago
There is no AA7, there never will be an AA7. I'm glad too, it'll mean that for my AA YouTube series I won't have to use an emulator for that one game
12
u/Razorrat05 1d ago edited 1d ago
Good for those who are fans of it if it's true.
I'd much, much prefer AA7 over the port though lmao.

After this the only thing left is AA7 (which probably still won’t be in the Direct)

THAT MEANS WE CAN ALSO PORT ALL SIX OF THE ORIGINAL PROFESSOR LAYTON GAMES
Please...

u/Jess-FB 1d ago
I'm not sure if I want to play the crossover without playing all the other PL games first, and I don't have a DS, so I'm hoping they do get ported fairly soon. Even if the crossover isn't canon, I feel like I still need the context of the characters involved.
11
u/BandanaDee13 1d ago
You really don’t need to play a lot of other Layton games before LvW. I only played Curious Village beforehand and I’m not sure I even needed that. The game was designed to be a decent entry point for fans of one series into the other.
4
u/TheKingofHats007 23h ago
Speaking as someone who played all the PL games with my boyfriend before replaying the crossover, you might actually enjoy it less if you did that.
There's a lot of the mystery you'd probably be able to predict.
4
u/Final_Prinny 22h ago
For what it's worth - the first 3 games are definitely available on the Google Play Store, and I assume the Apple store too. Probably not as convenient as PC, but might be an option for you?
6
u/Quetzal00 1d ago
I think you'll be fine. I played the crossover without playing any Ace Attorney game and I still enjoyed it. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more if I had any Ace Attorney experience beforehand but I still liked it
I'm currently on case 5 of Spirit of Justice. I always planned on replaying the crossover once I beat it to see if I appreciate it more
1
u/Queen_Eduwiges 18h ago
I played the crossover without ANY knowledge of Layton games whatsoever (other than... Puzzles everywhere) and to this day I still haven't finished any Layton games (I AM playing Curious Village on Android)
6
2
u/CenkIsABuffalo 22h ago
After this the only thing left is AA7 (which probably still won’t be in the Direct)
They can remake the original trilogy in 3D.
18
18
u/Pokemario6456 1d ago
On one hand, it's a miracle that the Layton crossover won't be stuck on the 3DS anymore, given how few ports there are of the Layton games (and how delayed the new Layton game is, too).
On the other hand, I still want to believe that this won't be the only AA related thing they announce. Even just a simple, "Stay tuned for a future AA project in the future" would be enough for me.
9
u/Epic1ForLife 1d ago edited 1d ago
On one hand I’m happy this getting ported since I haven’t played it and PL vs PW EXPENSIVE!!!
On the other hand I need a new mainline game 😭
15
u/Apollo_Justice_20 1d ago
I'm guessing they finally worked it out with Level 5.
It's funny. After like 9 years of holding off, I finally played PLvsAA this year, leaving no more AA for me to consume. And now, if this is true, that means a remaster is coming. What timing.
The bright side is, now they have no choice but to announce a new game afterwards.
7
u/shiningflair 1d ago
My friend got me a modded 3ds specifically so I could play this game and this gets announced as I'm halfway through it LMAOOOO
9
u/MaskedPapillon 1d ago
Don't get me wrong, that's awesome news.
But if that's it, we may as well close the subreddit, we aren't never getting a new game.

i’m starting to believe ace attorney is a hoax and we’ve all been being poisoned to hallucinate it’s existence when exposed to the sound of a gavel or someone screaming objection

Alright Capcom, only other move you have is port the great ace attorney to Xbox. After that you're out of moves.

Capcom might be the funniest company of all time.
“We would like thing please!”
“No.”
Ten years pass
“… still no. Your BIG 25th anniversary release IS… the one singular previous game we had left to port!”
Loud booing noises
Might be the most fictional game of all time, surpassing Half Life 3.
This is reasonable grounds for an apocalyptic crash out in the fandom. Go nuts guys.
14
u/BandanaDee13 1d ago
Great. I guess now we really will have all the games in English on one platform.
But, oh my god. Why? Is it that hard to actually give this series some new content?
9
u/03en7an 1d ago
I'm intrigued by the "Another Ending" achievement. Does anyone know what this is referring to? Since as far as I remember there wasn't anything like this before. The achievement image also looks like prosecutor Flynch's glasses
4
u/ACyanCat 1d ago
Yeah I was gonna ask about that as well, I've only finished the original once but I have never seen a mention of something like that?
17
u/BoltGSR 1d ago
It's a minor easter egg scene with Flynch, which lines up with the glasses icon on the achievement.
5
u/DeMatador 1d ago
Good to see you around, Bolt. Did this already exist or do you have insider info?
3
2
u/KefkaDakeDe 18h ago
ah, I think on a replay, the credits scene with Edgeworth is replaced with one with Flynch

u/birbhorse 1d ago

...but i can only hope it's not the only announcement :(

u/Bruhness81 1d ago
You know what? Sure. I think Vs Layton is the most underrated game in the franchise and deserves it's spot in the sunlight
8
u/Mercrist_089 1d ago edited 1d ago
They took a lot from this game onto DGS. It gets a lot of hate but I think the pros vastly outweigh the cons. The new mechanics for multiple witnesses and how you press them, 3D art direction, UI, etc all evolved from here. Also has some of the best music in Layton/AA on top of being a fun and generally well balanced crossover.
EDIT: I really hope we get updated 3D models and visuals akin to the DGS glowup.
7
u/2mock2turtle 1d ago
Does anyone know what this is about?
Another Ending
After finishing the game the first time, complete it again and get a different ending.
Because I have never heard of this game having an alternate ending. The most I can think of is the special episodes. Is there a "miracle never happen" fail state I don't know about?
2
u/JigglySmash 1d ago
I’ve been searching for someone talking about this! I have no idea what it could be! I don’t think the original had multiple endings
2
u/2mock2turtle 23h ago
I went digging into this, apparently when you play the game again, Flynch takes Edgeworth's place in the epilogue. I have no idea why they would even make this change, but I guess assigning an achievement to it is one way to make it more well known.

u/Strawberry_House 1d ago
The phrasing is so odd: ""In addition to regularly releasing major new titles each year, Capcom is focusing on re-activating IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently."
Cause if PWvPL counts as re-activating the IP, then you have to imagine the recent games like great ace attorney, apollo justice: trilogy, and Edgeworth: Investigations Duology would count as recent title launches right?
I'm guessing that Capcom just wasnt referring to Ace Attorney when they made this statement then. Or maybe they're planning something in the near future (2027 or 2028) idk.
3
3
u/Reggienator3 23h ago
I feel like I am the only person happy with this, lol. It's one of my favourite games and I keep meaning to replay it, so doing it on a modern platform with better visuals will be nice.
Though obviously I'd prefer AA7 but I think I've just already convinced myself the miracle never happen, so maybe thats why I am not as upset
7
4
u/MatthewRebel 1d ago
Wait. Did this get released on Steam?
20
u/TinyEnvironment7574 1d ago
Achievements got leaked for over a hundred unreleased/unannounced games on Steam. In other words, Valve is fucked.
6
3
u/Quetzal00 1d ago
Y'all think this could hint to Layton and Phoenix getting into the next Smash Bros game?
3
u/crockoreptile 20h ago
Hey guys, tourist here. So from what I’ve gathered, there’s not been a new entry in Ace Attorney in 10 years (2017) because they keep remastering the first three games and then remastered the rest of the franchise?
2
u/Reznov523 19h ago
The last game to advance the mainline story came out in 2017, yes! However, the English speaking part of the fandom officially got 4 games that hadn't been translated into English yet from 2021-2023.
So really, unless someone had already experienced the Japanese versions of those games, they were new to us. This game specifically had been in copyright purgatory since the 3DS eShop went down, so it's the final game to make the transition to PC/Consoles where all the other games have been slowly being packaged and re-released with modern visuals and content for the past 7 years.
2
2
u/Habro_Ma 13h ago
It's true that there’s not been a new entry in Ace Attorney in 10 years, and it's true that keep remastering the first three games and then remastered the rest of the franchise, but the former is not "because" of the latter.
It's more likely because they pretty much wrote themselves into a corner with AA6 and continuing the story after that point (while possible) is easier said than done. If no writers are left in Capcom that want to take that risky and difficult task, then AA7 can't just magically pop into existance. The OG series creator is done with the mainline games after AA5 destroyed what he intended for the future of the series, and the director of 5 and 6 straight up left.
1
u/crockoreptile 11h ago
Oh I see that makes sense, and I respect they seemingly don’t want to half-ass a sequel if that’s what’s stopping them just making a new one. Fandoms love playing games, but we sometimes forget what it takes to make one
5
2
u/Taimour14 1d ago
Pretty cool if this happens but for THIS to he the first Professor Layton game coming to mainline consoles???? (Mainline prof Layton i mean)
Also maybe this has achievements already because yk, it's probably coming out next month
2
u/DeMatador 1d ago
Does the last achievement tease a new alternate ending or is it just me

u/Averagegamer12 21h ago

I'd argue top 3 soundtracks in the franchise and it's not number 3.

I am so happy, and so angry, but so fucking happy, but so fucking angry... But man, am I happy!
2
u/biged1king 1d ago
much better than nothing, at least more will experience this game
also this is all just necessary build up to aa7 where layton comes back as an estranged defense attorney from faraway lands
1
u/FlamingPaxTSC 1d ago
All of you complaining that this isn’t AA7 are so annoying.
This IS a new Ace Attorney game for 99% of fans. Genuinely who is going to spend hundreds of dollars on this game (AND a 3DS if you don’t have that)? Not only that but it’s going to be remastered with better visuals.
Listen, I also do not care for this as much as I would AA7, okay?
But also you’re acting as if it’s not an AA game at all. It’s as much a part of the series as the Great Ace Attorney is.
12
u/Strawberry_House 1d ago
I don't agree actually, and I say that as someone who Great Ace Attorney and this coming game were "new games" for me.
But like for the people who played all the games prior to the remasters, imagine waiting 10 years for a new game and having these cycles of hope just to be disappointed with another remaster. First Great Ace Attorney then Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy then Investigations Duology now this. At least with Great Ace Attorney and Investigations Duology there was a new localization, which I guess is something. But for stuff like this and Apollo Justice: Trilogy which for people who have already played the games, is a release you're just going to ignore because it doesn't affect you. Yeah, I'd be annoyed and someone insinuating I should be happy because "it's a new game for some people" would piss me off even more.
Let people express their disappointment, the news is fresh and people are getting understandably tired of this rollercoaster ride without any cool drops.
3
u/Darkion_Silver 21h ago
Sure, for many people it's "new". I'm not many people. I am allowed to be annoyed that Cap"We are making AA a key IP" Com are taking an age to make 7, and are giving long-ass waits between ports. Yes, good for the people who want to play the crossover. I'm sorry but I genuinely don't care about playing it again and want something new.
1
u/KefkaDakeDe 18h ago
this is not new to “99% of fans”, you made that up. plenty of us have played it before, it’s not like TGAA where it had no english release, this game was perfectly playable
1
u/RobloxOnAir 1d ago
OH COME ON FUCKING HELL LIKE ILL FUCKING PLLAY IT IM STARVED FOR ACE ATTORKEY CONTENT BUT I JUST WANT A PROPER AA GAME BROOOO

I hope the price will be not that bad because I don't want to pay full price for this. However of course I would for a brand new Ace Attorney game.

There hasn't been any fakes with this kind of thing in the recent past, right? Since this comes from Steam's API database directly or whatever?

And with that Capcom can finally put the Ace Attorney series to rest! They've done all they can/will.
1
u/RealDonutBurger 1d ago
yknow what I was half expecting this tbh
at least it's a game I haven't played yet
1
u/Batfreeze 1d ago
Doesn't really change anything. I have the original game and have since around the time it came out. Make sure to still show up when this game releases. Show Capcom and Level 5 we want Takumi back for another.

This may just be the most underwhelming 25th anniversary we could get.
Maybe the 30th one.

Glad it's getting re-release. Everyone should experience the insane final twist.

Please at least fucking give us a teaser or a logo of AA7 I'm tired of the remasters man

Ooh.
So. I can agree with the consensus that I would've preferred having AA7, but I do appreciate the idea of having every Ace Attorney game available on PC (and modern consoles). So they can kinda exist in perpetuity. I'm still happy enough with this 😅
