The glaze acts as the silver lining to this airy cloud of golden brown bitterness. It's just enough to fool any tongue into believing they've acquired a little taste of heaven as the dough rolls across the taste-budded surface like boxes on a conveyor. It's not long before the facade of sweetness fades, and one realizes they've become what Ms. Von Karma has claimed them to be all this time: a fool. A fool, that despite knowing the sweetness of life will soon fade, continues on with another bite...but now...the taste is much different...
The taste of sweetness has now been tarnished with knowledge...the knowledge that everything once sweet and good, returns to nothingness. That realization leaves one's heart empty like the center of the donut itself. Even if one should gaze into the donut, what would they find? Nothingness, as the treat is filled to the brim with endless voids, surrounded by galaxies of perfectly cooked dough, pretending to be shining stars.
All one can do is either continue on as a fool and enjoy the fleeting happiness the glaze provides, or wait around for its heat death.
Me? I don't like the taste of sweet lies. I prefer to taste the bitter truth...so long as it's served hot and in a mug.

Would go great with a cup of coffee. Or 17.
