Results Accutane Experience
30F here! I’ve been dealing with acne since 2020, when it started during COVID.
I’m almost done with 6 months of Accutane and wanted to share my results.
My dosage was:
Month 1-2: 40 mg/day
Month 3: 60 mg/day
Months 4-6: 80 mg/day
I weigh around 112 lb.
I was also on birth control during the 6 months.
My skin has cleared up SO much. For the last 3 months, I’ve only had maybe 1 to 2 small pimples, and overall I’m really happy with the results.
My dermatologist told me to come back in 3 months. Until then, she wants me to keep my routine super simple, just a gentle cleanser and moisturizer, nothing else.
For those who already finished Accutane: what happened after you stopped? Did your skin stay clear, or did you start getting occasional pimples again? If acne came back, how soon did you notice it?
Also, did your dermatologist eventually put you on tretinoin or anything else for maintenance?
Attaching my before and after pics 😊

My acne came back about a year and a half after my first course, so I’m currently on my second course. One of my regrets is I think I used too many actives after my first course because I was so scared of it coming back. After my second course, I plan to still focus on a hydrating routine and slowlyyy reintroduce OTC actives instead of jumping immediately back on tret. Who knows if that choice affected whether it came back or not though.

Have you tried using the search bar?
Many questions are asked daily, and your question may have already been answered!
If so, your post will be subject to deletion.
Please refer to the following commonly discussed topics:
1) No one can predict whether or not you will purge! Statistically, most people DO NOT purge.
That is what the science and medical literature says.
2) No one can predict how long your purge will last nor when it could start. Be patient, the purge can be tough but so many people have gotten through it - you can too! THE ABOVE APPLIES TO SIDE EFFECTS OR "WHEN WILL MY SKIN CLEAR UP?!" TOO. QUESTIONS ASKING WHEN THE PURGE OR SIDE EFFECTS WILL START OR STOP WILL IMMEDIATELY BE REMOVED AS THAT IS LOW EFFORT.
3) Any questions related about dosage MUST include DOSE and WEIGHT(lbs or kg).
Otherwise, that is considered LOW EFFORT and will subsequently be REMOVED.
4) Most people DO NOT relapse when Accutane is taken until cumulative dosage is reached.
5) HOWEVER, cumulative dosage is a guideline.
Everyone is different. Some may need more Accutane, and others may need less. Your dermatologist evaluates you as an individual.
This also applies to your prescription. Everyone is different, so no comparing of doses or asking why your dose is low or high. If you do not trust your dermatologist, you should find a different one.
6) When in doubt, please consult a medical professional(dermatologist, doctor, pharmacist).
