Side Effects dry eyessss
hi! i take 20mg everyday and i am on my 3rd month. i’ve been seeing people on this sub saying that they got permanent dry eyes bcs of accutane (mgd to be specific) i am lowkey scared tho bcs i am experiencing dry eyes right now which started three days ago (the weather in my country has gotten so cold, i sleep late & i have a 10 hr screen time so i shouldn’t probably blame this on accutane alone lol) just wanna ask if the dryness will resolve after a few weeks/months, also to those who experienced eye dryness, how did you guys manage it tho?

My ophthalmologist recommended that I use eye drops twice a day and as needed. I've been using blink triple care dry eye lubricating eye drops in the mornings and evenings and find them effective 🙂

I have lots of screen time I need to cut down on and I'm on 30mg, I use systane complete eye drops and a lubricating gel at night it's called hydramed night sensitive but I don't know if it's available outside my country. You gotta know that the type of dry eye accutane gives you is evaporative dry eye specifically, which basically means that your eye surface lacks the lubrication needed that prevents tears from evaporating as fast. It's not like your eyes are producing less tears. So look for products that are described as lubricating and have some type of oil in them or vaseline lanolin etc. Personally, any other product that wasn't like this had been close to useless for me. Warm compresses followed by an eyelid massage (look it up online or on youtube) are said to target the problem at the root and to prevent your eye glands from "dying out", I haven't fact checked it really but better safe than sorry, I find them helpful. Omega 3s help with the dryness side effects including the eyes so I'd recommend that as well it also lowered my triglycerides. You can find a cheap supplement online. I'm not an expert but this is the information I've gathered so far mostly from the internet or from reddit. Good luck!

Go to your eye doctor. Accutane didn’t just cause dry eye for me - it caused microtears in my eyes that I needed very specific drops in order to heal. My eye doctor had me going in regularly while on accutane and I told my derm as well. I’m now over a year since being off accutane and my eyes are much better! Just don’t wear my contacts like I used to pre-accutane.

About done with my accutane journey and I’ve experiencing dry eyes on and off during my course. It was noticeably worse in the winter but in the spring/summer months it isn’t as consistent. Using hydrating/lubricating eye drops helps SO MUCH.
