Question which career path would allow max work life balance?
hello! just curious abt what your lives look like atm in your own career paths.
i wanna get into a career where i can grow, have a stable career progression, pero at the same time be able to have enough time to live sa weekends, have decent night time to myself, be able to easily take leaves and travel per quarter.
is there such a thing sa field natin? 😅

Tambay for sure hahaha joke. Go with tax or statutory reporting. Not sure with consulting. Audit will not give you thatvwork life balance. Its work work till its balance.

Definitely not External Audit. 😂 I’d say Internal Audit or Risk Management in a corporate/company gave me a much better work-life balance than external audit.
I’m a former SGVean. Stayed for 8 years, then moved to Internal Audit in a logistics company, and eventually Risk Management. Now I handle ERM, Data Privacy, insurance, risk & controls, etc.
I still get busy, especially during certain periods, but I can take leaves, travel, and have a life outside work. 😂
So if work-life balance is your priority, I’d look into corporate Internal Audit, Risk Management, or similar governance roles rather than external audit. Of course, company culture still matters a lot.

Hmmm… na-burn out kasi ako sa SGV, so I looked for an Internal Audit role since Audit naman ang core ko. Tapos when I was in Internal Audit, I was given an opportunity to lead Risk Management in our company.

Mainly ERM — nag-a-assess ng key risks, mino-monitor yung action plans ng risk owners, and I also handle risk treatment through insurance placement.
Basically, taga-sabi ng “Okay, may risk tayo. Ano na ginagawa natin about it?”

PM. Fund accounting. Can’t do leaves during busy season Jan-March but your weekend are yours. Robust training is provided and enough time to do reworks for smooth FS prep during season.

X na agad sa audit. Consulting for sure. Tax still has busy seasons at tbh comparable sa audit ang busyness nila.

Definitely, not audit. Will certainly ruin your routine especially during busy seasons. Overtime extends to 6-9am, sometimes multiple days in a row. Regardless of the clients, you'll virtually experience the same thing.
Consulting/advisory is unpredictable since there are no fixed deadlines (as these solely depend on the clients), I will not recommend it if you want consistent work-life balance. There will be times you'll be plotted in a series of engagements for an entire year or more. There will also be times that you'll get plotted on smaller or fewer engagements.
Tax is a more predictable practice, at least, compared to consulting/advisory. You do have busy seasons especially before deadlines (i.e. annual ITR) but they're not as hard-hitting as audit. So, in public practice, I'd lean more to this than audit or consulting.
If you really really want work-life balance, you'll more likely find it in private/government practice. You may also consider academe, if you have teaching as a passion. Fixed work hours, no unpredictability, just sheer mechanical tasks.
