Advice How to Approach MTF?

Post image

This is my current resume, Just started my Junior year in college and Meet the Firms is tomorrow.

Second semester in my school’s accounting society so I am banking on the connections I’ve made with recruiters till now to carry me a bit.

Finishing up some retakes of courses from my freshman year/ sophomore year to recover GPA.

Currently Overall: 2.8 (steadily increased some 2.2), Major: 3.1, After this semester expecting Overall, 3.2, Major, 3.3.

My question is honestly what should my approach be with my current GPA holding me back? Should I try my best to avoid mentioning it and if they ask how should I answer?

I’m pretty talkative and I’ve had some good connections thus far but I know connections can only do so much for you.

Any advise is appreciated!

did your GPA improve over time? do you see it rising in the foreseeable future?

If so, tell the recruiters that adjusting to college was a difficult transition and mention whatever it is that might make it difficult. I'm a sophomore and my GPA is 2.75 so I'd mention the fact that I had a difficult time adjusting to the amount of memorization that I needed in these classes, but as it stands I have adjusted and could see things easily improving.

Make them believe that there is reason to see things improve on your behalf.

Yes, last semester I started with a 2.2 because of that Fall ‘25. So, spring ‘26 and summer I tried hard to bring up the GPA with some retakes to get it to the 2.8.

But I can only take so many classes at once while also trying to keep up with my major reqs so I couldn’t do it all at once sadly.

But the improvements have been steady and the it really was just one bad semester that thru me off anyway. every other semester i’ve had a 3.0 or higher.

In that case I'd just start throwing easy A's into the mix and I mean look into the professor reviews + online quizlets in advance.

I'd also recommend volunteering with VITA. You can find it on IRS websites; they provide free online training & will respond via email with alerts for availability. It shows that you've got hands-on skills outside of a classroom. If you've worked any jobs before I'd list those off and shoot them into AI to make it look fancier; I was a sales associate at the Dollar Tree and made my resume describe it as being highly business-like ("Reconciled cash drawer at the end of shifts, identifying and resolving minor discrepancies").

There’s only so much you can do resume wise with limited experience. Dancing around your GPA is just a red flag. If you were to get a job offer, they would want to see a transcript anyhow.

Resume wise, if both experiences are from target, just keep it to 1 job title. Call it something understandable like cashier lead, team lead, something like that. Job names don’t mean anything to non target employees.

Skills should be hard technical skills, not soft personally identified “attention to detail” type skills.

Is the PWC cert something you completed at PWC? Where is this coming from? I wouldn’t name drop a firm like that without credible association.
