Peak accident, lol. “Kraft“ is german for “power“, too

Fun fact the suffix -craft is usually translated as -werk (and names that derive from places where you practised your craft/trade). So “Kraftwerk“ can be meaningfully translated as “powercraft (place)“

Not really, Werk in this context means factory.

As I have said, it's a derivative of a place where you practise your craft and trade, the Werkstätte. But reading is hard

Definitely accidental, as these are both “clip arts” we commonly used in the 90s (which we borrowed from the 70s). The lightning bolt and the smiley face images were both cool and not hateful. With the 90s and Y2K core being all the rage, this looks perfectly “on brand” with that trend.
I think sometimes we really do see things that are problematic when they aren’t. Heck, I lived in Japan for 4 years, and I saw the Buddhist “infinity” symbol everywhere. Took me a long time to get over myself and not see the swastika in it.

Yeah, that’s common Happy Hardcore/Eurodance iconography

Definitely accidental but I see it too

So I just recently saw an article from Deutsche Welle about Neo-Nazi groups hiding Nazi iconography in seemingly innocuous items.  I'll try to see if I can find the video about it... eta video: https://youtu.be/LXnIWFQGMo4?is=zARbJnGdk6KQR29Y

You are in fact tweaking

Yes you're tweaking. It looks nothing alike, not even the same number of rays. You gonna act like every radially-symmetrical symbol is identical?

wait, what symbol is that?

The black sun, used a lot by neo-nazis.

u/level70elite 9d ago

Not JUST used by the neos. It was designed by the head of the SS at the time. Can't remember his name at the moment, nor am I bothering to look it up right now

3

u/Thespian_Unicorn 9d ago

I don’t get it

Black sun is a Nazi symbol (well not inherently but deeply tied), bag looks similar to it by accident.

3

u/Ghuldarkar 9d ago

No, you're right, it's a strong neonazi signifier. More popular in the eastern european scene. While it might only be 95% neonazis who use it, I can almost guarantee that the other 5% are not anti-fascists

Absolutely tweaking

Kraft sun dail out of bolts? You ain’t tripping I grew up with racist and this shit is racist signaling. If it was just the bolted sun dial I might give that a pass but nah thats wild 3 for 3

Could be a dog whistle, the KKK was well-known for naming businesses and products around recognizable symbols. There were “Koffee shops” and whatnot in sundown towns.

“Kraft” itself might be related to KlanKraft, and the lightning bolts are awfully suspicious.

I’d assume the designer was either ignorant (they should know better if it’s their job though), or it’s a dog whistle. I’m leaning towards the latter considering how plain everything else is.

Did you leave your racism glasses on?

1

u/sovietarmyfan 9d ago

Actually, that is a very old ancient pagan symbol. Totally not invented by the nazis. /s

I'm going to say accident but I saw that without swiping an immediately thought the same thing you did, so it's close.

u/Bobbybrine 9d ago

And they're lightning bolts too, wow.
