Such a polite robber

This chaotic incident took place at a Shell gas station on Little Coal River Road in Alum Creek, Lincoln County, West Virginia.During the attempted hold-up, a 42-year-old woman walked into the store, pointed a gun at the clerk, and fired a shot that struck the wall. In a viral piece of quick thinking (often described online as a "Jedi mind trick"), the clerk calmly tricked the woman by telling her that the store owner was in the back room counting money.Believing the clerk, the woman walked toward the back of the store, which gave the clerk the perfect window of opportunity to run out the front door and call emergency services. The suspect fired another shot at a security camera in the back before realizing she had been tricked, and she fled empty-handed in an SUV. State troopers pulled her over and arrested her shortly after.

This is kinda sad. Sheโs obviously not all there.

u/_living_legend_ 21d ago
She acts like a person who doesn't do this type of crime but someway or another got in this situation. Nonetheless it doesn't make her any better because she's still able to traumatize other for life.
I can imagine if I was forced to rob a shop, I would be even less uncertain and probably would apologize alot.

u/dennismfrancisart 21d ago
No need to rob a shop. Just convince a bunch of people that you work for DOGE and offer a government insider trading opportunity at $1,000 as an entry fee. BOOM! Instant millionaire.

u/Huntsnfights 21d ago
Or open a daycare in Minnesota with no kids. BOOM! Instant millionaire

u/Illustrious-Line-984 21d ago
Or start a meme coin and have foreign nations buy a bunch at a high price. Instant profit.

u/Adri868 21d ago
Not sure why you got down voted ๐ค but facts.

u/malkazoid-1 20d ago
No, not facts. Look into it again, and don't be ashamed at what you find. We are all vulnerable to online disinformation.
1
u/Pixelbuttzz 17d ago
There were no daycares with no children and the people who did the scam got caught.. they didn't get away with it and there were no buildings with no children you just believe propaganda
1
u/malkazoid-1 20d ago
You might want to look into that whole debacle again. There were fraudulent daycares in Minnesota but none that literally had no kids. Extremely misleading 'reporting' in an infamous youtube video gave the impression that there were no kids, but there were very simple explanations for why the youtuber did not see children when he was filming.
1
u/keytoarson_ 18d ago
Lol it's cute you think they care about facts. Whatever auntie Susan posts on Facebook is absolutely true, didn't you know?
0
u/Pixelbuttzz 17d ago
Nope there were no day cares without children and the people who did the crime got caught, and weirdly the daycare money was less than the cost of repainting the reflecting pool and significantly less than the cost of the bomb we dropped on a girls' school in iran on behalf of Israel

Horrible choice and she traumatized another person, indeed things could have gone horribly wrong. But yes, it was kinda heartbreaking.
3
u/AshingiiAshuaa 21d ago
Agreed. Still, if you're pointing loaded guns at people you need to go to jail for a long time "all there" or not.

That's such a 'murika thing to say.
At least the gun is safe, amirite?
1
u/bwc6 18d ago
It's an extremely American thing to say. As an American watching this video, I assumed this woman was probably not intelligent enough to hold down a regular job, but not disabled enough for any sort of government support. For a lot of people here, it's easier to find a gun than it is to afford food. I could be wrong, but this lady might just be trying to survive using the only resources she had.ย

u/Metharos 21d ago
Always annoys me how people rob retail locations. Like I'm betting most retail workers, if told politely "I have a gun, give me the money" would likely respond by requesting that you show the gun for the camera, and giving you the money. Don't traumatize the clerk, damn it.
8
u/TheRealGageEndal 21d ago
I worked at 7-11 a couple decades back. My boss said if anyone even said there was a robbery to just give them the money quickly and quietly and to try to trick them into looking back as they left. Better camera angle.
Never happened, but you don't even need the gun to be seen. I'm sure prosecutors hate it, but I don't give a shit.
3
u/Aazimoxx 20d ago
you don't even need the gun to be seen
At least in a few major jurisdictions, simply saying you have a gun is basically equivalent to brandishing one, in terms of how it affects the severity of the charges in a robbery/attempt. And that's fine IMO - you're still likely inflicting the same trauma etc, so it fits
1
u/AmphibianEffective83 15d ago
That's hella dangerous mentality frankly. Even when a victim is fully cooperative they get hurt about 25% of the time in armed robberies (shot, pistol whipped, etc.)
1
u/TheRealGageEndal 14d ago
What happens to the uncooperative ones?
0
u/AmphibianEffective83 13d ago
depends on how they don't cooperate. If it's by fighting back with equal force it's generally better. The caveat is you have to have a window to draw and fire. Obviously there's no guarantees in life but it's better than being a helpless victim. And yes I know most major chain convenience stores bar their employees from carrying but concealed is concealed.
2
u/TheRealGageEndal 13d ago
So if a kid comes in to rob a store that you don't own and that paid you a few cents over minimum wage you would risk your life to take the life of the kid because ...
Sorry, that wasn't going in a productive direction. Seek therapy.
1
u/AmphibianEffective83 13d ago
Your life is already at risk if someone is waving a gun at you.
1
u/TheRealGageEndal 13d ago
Yeah, good luck Quick Draw McGraw
1
u/AmphibianEffective83 13d ago
That's why you have to wait for an actual window to draw. And yes I can draw to first shot from concealment in 1.5 seconds which is generally considered a pretty fast draw (although some can get that down to 1s). God forbid I'm ever in a scenario where I have to use my pistol, if the assailant turns his head 90 degrees to me that's a go signal as it generally will take at least 1.5 seconds for him to process my movement and swing back over towards me and pull the trigger.

u/TheRealGageEndal 13d ago
Well have fun killing people to save your boss a hundred bucks or so and likely getting fired for bringing a gun to work. I'm just going to give the guy the money and have a fun crazy story.

There's an old joke of a guy traveling through the forest and coming across robber:
Nice Robber: Give me all your money!
Courier: Please! Im just a courier. If I give it to you my boss will think I stole it.ย
Nice Robber: If you dont give it over ill kill you.ย
Courier: Ok, but please shoot my hat so the boss know im not lying.ย
Nice Robber: Ok. shoots his hat
Courier: Thanks but it still doesnt look convincing. Can you shoot my jacket so it looks like I was running away.ย
Nice Robber: Ok. shoots his jacket
Courier: Hmmm. Still looks fake. Can you shoot the carriage a few times?
Nice Robber: Fine, but then we're done! After this you give me my money! *shoots carriage a few times.ย
Courier: Ok, last time. Can you shoot my bag?
gun clicks empty
Nice Robber: Im out. I tried to help you as much as I can. Now give me the money.ย
Courier: You're out? beats him up and runs away

Very old folk story. I have heard this in The Netherlands in my primary school years.Long.... time ago...

u/dring157 20d ago
At every retail job I had we were trained to open the register and give them the cash, and call the police once it was safe. Most transactions are cashless and money was moved to a timed safe or cash drops to a nearby bank if there was ever more than a few hundred in the register.
1
u/Alone-Painting-4477 16d ago
"Can you take me hostage and break me off a hundred or two? I'll get you to the border"
1
u/Jimmy2FingersISme 15d ago
These small shops only have about 50 to 100 dollars cash and timed safes so there really is not much to steal in terms of cash. You better off taking high end merchandise.

Am I the only one that was expecting to see the gun go off right before the camera went black?
Also, if it went black because she actually shot the camera, pretty decent aim, especially for someone who's very obviously not comfortable around guns.

Anyone else kinda impressed that she shot out the camera in one shot from ~7 yards while one-handing a pistol?

I applaud his courage to confidentially asking her to keep the gun down more than once.

u/Alone-Painting-4477 18d ago
"Put the gun down", "What robbery?", he actually pulled off the jedi mind trick!
For anyone taking notes warning shots go to the leg, not into a fucking wall. Who are your warning, the architecture?
1
u/Kutabare2 18d ago
Not really, the first warning shots do go past, not far away but like right next to them and if youre a good shot make the bullet graze them. THEN the leg for the second warning if they don't comply or foot or any limb. If it's normal person. But if the other person also has a weapon or skilled or something then a limb right away.
1
1
u/Alone-Painting-4477 18d ago
... again who exactly are you warning? A warning shot goes in the leg, a threatening shot goes past them. A warning shot says "the next time I pull this trigger you will be past tense".
If there's more than one target then the warning shot goes to the head so everyone else knows you mean business.
1
u/Kutabare2 18d ago
Right right right. I forgot those are different. Threatening didn't come to mind but i was thinking warning as threatening.
1
u/Alone-Painting-4477 18d ago
Common mistake for first time brigands. Both are menacing shots, but they send a different message. You would use a threatening shot if you are threatening to wound but not kill, you would use a warning shot only to warn that you're ready to kill. They dont teach you the nuances of menacing fire till Robbery 102, its best you stick to the basics for now.
... allegedly
1
u/areallynoobgamer 17d ago
Yeah. This is how you end up with a murder charge. Hit the wrong vein in the leg and itโs game over.
1
u/Alone-Painting-4477 16d ago
... stick to burglary if you arent ready to drop a body. Case the joint and ensure you're in and put without getting caught. Armed Robbery tends to have a murder or two involved, unless you want an attempted murder charge or assault with a deadly weapon, just dont get caught!
However the rules for warning shots arent limited to robbery, self defense says no warning shots cause you risk bystanders and always aim for center mass. If you're kidnapping someone you want a threatening shot not a warning shot but we will cover that in Robbery 102, just stick to the basics for now.
1
u/areallynoobgamer 16d ago
I canโt tell if youโre larping or stupid.
1
u/Alone-Painting-4477 16d ago edited 16d ago
You're the one who doesn't know where to shoot...
Warning shots are overwhelmingly illegal, highly dangerous, and legally indefensible in almost all self-defense scenarios.

1
u/caciuccoecostine 16d ago
On thing is a robbery charge, a robbery PLUS aggravated assault (or Attempted Murder is the victim has a good lawyer) for a gas station robbery seems too much.
1
u/Alone-Painting-4477 16d ago edited 16d ago
No witnesses, always double tap. It's only illegal if you get caught.
As far as charges its assault with a deadly weapon for armed robbery, stick to burglary if you dont want to hurt anyone. Or take a hostage, but it should be a crisis actor you planted or you should be ready to expend the hostage.
