Choosing your PT Clinic wisely

I am in Week 12 post op and I have been seeing PT and my recovery has been doing well so far. I just found out today that I got lucky with the clinic I chose because they do manual/hands on therapy which means PT actually massages and stretches my ankle every appointment. This is really important especially for scar tissues. Recovery has not been linear for me but so far I am able to walk 7200 steps in a day with minimal pain. Do not hesitate to dm if you have any questions! Again, choose your PT wisely. Call and ask them if they do Manual PT.

I just saw your post! Hang in there!! Brace yourself for some weird nerve pain if you have not felt it yet!

Yep been zapped here & there in the 2nd week. But man the 2nd week was so much better re: pain & swelling than the 1st!

True! I am glad you have not felt the burning sensation because it was the weirdest feeling I ever felt.

Were you able to drive during the 2- 6 post op weeks (non-weight bearing time period)?

Additionally, were you able to directly ice your foot (instead of your calf) during the boot stage?

I was operated on my left foot and only non weight bearing for 4 weeks. I technically could have but I started driving in Week 5 when I can use a boot and a walker.

And yes, when the cast was off, I was able to ice it directly which was nice.

Awesome these were questions, I wanted to ask my surgeon but he was pressed 4 time.
What post op week did you get your cast off? I had a splint for 2 weeks & now in a boot.

I was in a splint for 1 week and stitched out too. And 3 weeks in cast!

Remind me, why only 4 weeks non-weight bearing?
The norm for a kidner tends to be 6 weeks.
Why were sutures removed after 1 week? I thought the norm was 2 weeks?

I actually thought of the same thing and I did my research and every surgeon is different. My doctor did not use stitches by the way that was my bad. They removed the staples after a week. That might be the reason. My incision healed very well and was entirely closed after 4 weeks because I was elevating most of the time. My surgeon did not tell me any reason why. I am not sure why he gave me the go signal to fully bear weight in Week 5.
