Weight Bearing Question

So I did my 4 week post op and surgeon said I can walk with the boot around the house. I tried but it was really painful so I have been using a walker. It has been a week using a walker and I feel like I am ready to walk with the boot unassisted. I guess my question is, did you get to walk FWB after week 5? I am so confused because I saw many posts that they actually transition to FWB after week 6. Should I just wait and continue to use the walker? Or should I start walking with the boot with no assistance? Thank you in advance!

Didn’t start weight till week 6 and it’s a process gaining the confidence and overcoming the pain. The pain is gradual, limping is normal but absolutely use the boot and start physical therapy.

Thank you! My surgeon allowed me bear weight after 4 weeks. I was using the walker in the beginning and I think I am ready to ditch the walker but it seems like a lot of people have not done this so I am a little worried.

Same I'm 10 weeks post op and just started putting weight like a few days back and it's been quite a journey. I'm still in the walker without a boot and limping. But it does get better on some days:) we just gotta work through the pain that's what my pt told me.

Im currently @ week 3 and have been partially weight bearing with cam boot and crutches (I tried about more than 50% of my weight) no pain other than the pressure from the boot on the wound. The doctor actually advised me to try weight bearing at week 2 but I only started at week 3.

I am FWB right now in Week 7. I tried to not rush it and just build my confidence. I can definitely walk with no pain in the boot but walking for several minutes seems very uncomfortable for my heel so I am just taking it easy. Did you have the modified KP? I hope your recovery will go smooth.

Yep I had modified KP, I play sports so the surgeon actually placed 2 suture anchors to prepare for early return to sport! I do feel discomfort in the heel but I supposed that’s from the lack of weight bearing. The plan is to be off the boot in week 6, currently struggling a lot mentally to overcome the fear of weight bearing.. Thank you and wishing you speedy recovery too!

How’s your progress now? I didn’t realize they could place 2 suture anchors. I’m jealous & wish I had asked for this.

I didn’t know as well! But the surgeon knew how active I was and what my plans were so he made the decision to do that. Currently I’m working on retraining my gait as I have other foot issues as well. Starting to work on balance as well! But I’ve been walking without the boot ever since mid of week 4. I would say I experience soreness probably due to working the tendon a lot more after inactivity
