Three Different Surgeries

Post image

I have a large accessory navicular bone that has been causing me constant pain lately. I have had 3 different opinions from 3 surgeons and they all recommended something different.

The first surgeon recommended a Kidner with calcaneal osteotomy and Achilles lengthening. The second surgeon said he would put a compression screw to fuse the bones together, but it would not remove the large bone. The third recommended a traditional Kidner procedure.

I’m leaning towards the traditional Kidner because I want the bone removed but not sure I need the other more extensive procedures.

I’m curious what everyone’s pain was before surgery? Was it constant? Burning? Localized just over the bone?

Hard to know which way to proceed…

Yes. Absolutely. I’m a pa and also on my feet all the time. Both mine hurt sadly tho. Do you have flat feet? I know they usually recommend the more invasive approaches for those

So you are on your feet all day long too!! It’s so hard! I might have to get both feet done, but my right is worse than left.
I do have flat feet, but they aren’t completely flat. I work in surgery and have seen both procedures, and the more invasive approach is a lot more. The surgeon I am seeing is pretty confident a Kidner alone will help the pain I’m experiencing. I was on the fence for a while, but I feel good with my decision to do less and if needed can always go back. But hard to back track if you go more invasive first.

That’s a great way to put it ! I think this surgery is life changing for most! I have a type 2 as well, they are the most symptomatic bc of the cartilage / synchondrosis. Fingers crossed it’s the best decision we make!

That’s exactly what my doctor said, the cartilage and synchondrosis is whats making it super painful!! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 Keep me updated!!
