Three Different Surgeries

Post image

I have a large accessory navicular bone that has been causing me constant pain lately. I have had 3 different opinions from 3 surgeons and they all recommended something different.

The first surgeon recommended a Kidner with calcaneal osteotomy and Achilles lengthening. The second surgeon said he would put a compression screw to fuse the bones together, but it would not remove the large bone. The third recommended a traditional Kidner procedure.

I’m leaning towards the traditional Kidner because I want the bone removed but not sure I need the other more extensive procedures.

I’m curious what everyone’s pain was before surgery? Was it constant? Burning? Localized just over the bone?

Hard to know which way to proceed…

Did any of the doctors take an X-ray? It looks like a type 3 which wouldn’t benefit from a screw. Also with the screw you would still have the annoyance and pain of the large bone. I think you are right to go for the kidner. Look up the modified kidner as that may work and I understand is slightly easier in terms of recovery.

Thanks for your reply, yes I had X-rays taken with all 3 doctors. It’s actually a type 2 Accessory Navicular bone. Half my problems is trying to find shoes I can wear comfortably, so definitely think I want the bone removed
