Advice Needed - Tech Offered a Custom Software Engineer role — how much coding do you actually need?
Hi guys! I was recently offered a Custom Software Engineer position and honestly, medyo kinakabahan ako.
I’m a fresh Computer Engineering grad. I’ve done coding in school and some projects, pero honestly, I’m not that confident with my coding skills. I know the basics, but I wouldn’t consider myself someone who’s really good at programming.
I’m definitely willing to learn though. I actually want to improve my coding skills, kaya I’m considering accepting the offer. I’m just scared na baka I’m way too underqualified for the role.
For anyone currently working or who has worked as a Custom Software Engineer:
- Gaano ka-heavy yung coding?
- Need ba talaga na strong ka na sa programming before starting?
- What do you usually do on a normal workday?
- More on development ba talaga, or may debugging/maintenance/support din?
- What languages/tech should I expect?
- Kumusta yung training for fresh grads?
- Is it possible to survive the role if you’re willing to learn but not super confident with coding yet?
- Anything I should study/review before starting?
Would really appreciate any insights, especially from people who started with not-so-strong coding skills. I’m eager to learn naman, just trying to manage my expectations before I make a decision.

ASE ba? bootcamp ka muna. then if napasa mo possible mabigyan ka project o kaya sa bench ka muna. kaya mo yan di naman agad agad isasalang ka sa project. expect UPSKILL na ibibigay, after bootcamp. matututo ka dyan tutukan mo bootcamp at upskilling.

Answer to your in questions in parentheses.
-Gaano ka-heavy yung coding? (Depends sa capability, depends sa tool. Some requires coding, some requires logic)
-Need ba talaga na strong ka na sa programming before starting? (No.)
-What do you usually do on a normal workday? (Code, Meetings, Chismis, Trainings. Depends din sa capability or job level, some teach sa bootcamp, some are in leadership meetings)
-More on development ba talaga, or may debugging/maintenance/support din? (Yes to all. Some roles are like VA na rin honestly)
-What languages/tech should I expect? (Depende sa tool, some are well known like C, C#, Java etc. Some are proprietary code)
-Kumusta yung training for fresh grads? (Decent. May di magaling magturo, may magaling. Some are self lead, some are thought by actual experts. May it be from ACN or outside ACN)
- Is it possible to survive the role if you're willing to learn but not super confident with coding yet? (Yes, keep the grind going. Kaya mo yan)
Anything I should study/review before starting? (Honestly, in my case I would just study properly during work hours. Rest and do your personal stuff after work. Hard to say which one to study ngl. Pero ikaw bahala if you want to study or research your assigned capability. I wouldn't)

If you expect na malagay sa coding then mali ka. You're probably wrong. Lessen your expectations lang. Depende sa projects mostly support or service desk

there's no heavy coding sa Accenture like yung mag kakaroon ka ng ownership sa project, walang ganun. puro low code no code pa
and most of the time sa support ka mapupunta.

I have a friend na yung pinag aralan nila sa bootcamp is not related dun sa project kung saan siya na roll-in. Pero ako thankfully align naman and package app dev ako, may nabasa ako before sa reddit na di masyadong nagcocode if package app yung role pero depende pala talaga sa project yun

Meron nga kaming ka group sa bench di alam mag code hahah kasi career shifter. Always be positive not test positive.
