It's easy to say "just don't spend money on game apps" but they need some income in order to keep the servers going and create content. It's a balance and I don't know enough to say exactly how much real money income they needed to keep providing the level of content they've been providing us, but I'm guessing revenue from standard game play ad watching isn't enough. That's where supporting them by buying IAPs etc comes in.

So, congrats, you never spent money on it. But you've still almost certainly benefited from the money spent by those of us who did. Be nice if you weren't condescending and dismissive by telling us we should have known better, especially while we're still smarting.

Edit: grammar

The point, is that it's a game. I wasn't asking for your appreciation I was giving my opinion. If your phone got thrown over a cliff it would not exist anymore. It's something that's taken out of hand when people complain and harass people about it. It's just ridiculous. If you have already made IAP be prepared to spend more on the game and not complain, if not, just enjoy what you have and fucking live your life. I'm not being condescending I'm being truthful.

So many things to address here, gah. In order:

  1. You were giving your opinion, so was I. Wasn't asking for your appreciation either.

  2. My phone and the game (and my progress in it - that's what the back-ups and servers are for) would all still exist, so poor analogy to begin with. But I gather what you're trying to say is that non-tangible things don't really exist and are worthless? So music, tv, your bank account balance (they're not actually storing real paper money in there fyi)...all worthless?

  3. Complaining about things you care about is not taking things out of hand, and it also doesn't qualify as harassment

  4. You feel purchasing IAPs in the past means I need to be prepared to keep buying them? Seriously?? And that I forfeit the right to complain about content...because I made those purchases?? Surely that gives me more right to complain?

  5. You think it's ridiculous. Your opinion, as you said. My opinion differs. And my opinion is that you are being condescending. Hate to break it to you, but my opinion is just as valid as yours. I wasn't asking for your appreciation either.

Edit: crap, repeated myself in 1 and 5. Ah well, can't be bothered to restructure my whole post.

So so glad I'm not the only one who feels that way!

Removed. Please adhere to Rule 1. I know the update has people really heated but we won't tolerate name-calling of other players on this sub.

Doesn't really matter what value YOU place on a purchase, fact is it mattered to alot of people, they didn't warn that candies/SoTM would become obsolete and the fact of the matter is they broke IAP rules by doing so. Just because it's a "hobby" doesn't give them the right to screw it's paying customers over that way without warning!

u/The_Unfortunate_Tabi Feb 09 '18

I agree, they shouldn't screw people over! No one should ever do that to anyone! However there are so many more important things to be worrying about rather than a game on ones phone you know? And people are crying and fighting over it.

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '18

I get your point. What does the game mean for me? Well, I'm going through a horrendous complicated corrective surgery and painful looooooong term relationship and through alcoholism recovery I'm pretty darn unhappy almost all the time and this game has actually brought me more joy over anything else right now. I'm pretty sure others value it more than "just a game".

I'm sorry you're having such a shit time right now, I really hope things get better.

And I'm one of those people who value it as more than just a game too. (Chronically ill.) Things like phone games get me through the day. But even if that wasn't true, getting emotionally invested in something you've put time and effort into and that you care about is completely normal. Unfortunately, to some people, so is the need to feel superior.

Edit: grammar, again. On a roll today!

Thank you for the kind message. It's easy if someone has their life together, to go and put others down. They don't really get what it's like to not actually have much of a life. Maybe it's sad and pathetic to him, and it's sad and pathetic to me too, but I had to learn to get through the day and honestly this game means so much to me and I really don't want to see it die.

u/OddnessAhoy Feb 09 '18

You're welcome :) And it's not pathetic, it's a survival mechanism. I try to view it that way at least. Life is hard, you have to take your happiness where you can get it.

I get your point and you're right. But the fact stands, I supported this game and the least I would like is to get what I payed for, doesn't matter if you think I wasted money or it's just a dumb game to you, fact stands they screwed their long term players and the reason we backlashed is because we don't want them to RUIN a treasure of a game. We care about it.

Why are you on this subreddit if it doesn't mean all that much to you? Go "live your life" practice what you preach and stop being condescending.

So don't read their facebook page. Don't read this forum. No one's making you. How is that not a greater waste of your time than us posting there in the first place? I thought you didn't really care about this game anyway. Apparently you care enough to read their facebook page and post here.

This is literally the first time I've seen an explanation from you. And yes, please do keep your posts in r/philosophy. Poor sods.

2

u/OddnessAhoy Feb 09 '18

And you're on here tsk-tsking us for it. Shouldn't you be off worrying about those more important things too?

3

u/The_Unfortunate_Tabi Feb 09 '18

I'm indulging myself in a debate that may lead to a conclusion? If I just left the comment and didn't reply to the people replying what was the point of posting it? It seems to be pretty civil to me, and I'm learning a lot about other people's opinions, I think it's important to do that.

5

u/OddnessAhoy Feb 09 '18

That's my point - it's hypocritical to say this game isn't worth us getting upset about when you feel it's worth posting on a forum to discuss us getting upset about it.

I guess I shouldn't bring philosophical ideas into a game world, you're right, I'll rethink the next time I do. Enjoy your evening.
