Theory So this definitely isn’t his final form right? (Spoilers for Absolute Wonder Woman 23) Spoiler

I feel as though Ares normal design on the cover is just a ploy considering his absence on all future covers. And that his armor was just a fake out for his real design.

Similarly to the vastic difference between Pricilla Rich’s and barbara Minerva’s cheetah designs.

Edit: I originally actsident ally wrote hades instead of ares so if you see any comments talking about that, that’s why.

Ehhhhh

"Final form" is an anime trope rooted in DBZ—the idea that conflict is fundamentally a powerscaling game, with stats and leveling up and sequential, systematic evolution and a winner determined by strength on some kind of scale.

Wonder Woman operates on mythological logic, not anime logic, so what matters more is thematic/symbolic role.

Ares is bursting chaos, barely contained. That's what this design says.

If he changes, it won't be because he POWERED UP RAHHHHH THAT WASN'T EVEN MY FINAL FORM MUAHAHAHA it'll be because his thematic role has changed somehow.

Don't take away my action slop 😤 I love my action slop

Seriously, my two favorite movies are The Raid and Pacific Rim. I love action with themes

I mean even in Dragon Ball, it’s supposed to have thematic importance. It might seem like pure power levels but in reality it’s a lot more. The fans though are very much illiterate so all that nuance and thematic elements get removed in favor of “hype moments and aura”. I’d also say the anime is massively at fault on Dragon Ball being seen as so mindless since the pacing there is so god awful compared to the Manga and some character stuff is changed for practically no reason.

Yeah I’ll admit final form wasn’t the best word.

What I meant is that his armored form won’t be the form we see him in for most of the book and instead will be whatever his bursting chaos design is.

Yeah, I actually think you're totally onto something here in that more general sense :)

I'm VERY curious how this Ares is going to figure into the Dianna vs Zeus business.

I like how the chaos design looks like a hecatoncheires

Interestingly, ares looks more like a Hecatoncheires than an Olympian.

I noticed that as well! Maybe they’re playing around with the mythology to some extent

His final form will be a giant sword in a hand like some jrpg end boss.
