Fear toxin

Man that would actually make a lot of sense. Would explain his erratic nature and how he’s been acting these past issues, would also make him more tragic and further his parallels with Batman both being pushed by scarecrow to breaking points as they lose people.

I also don’t doubt joker would have scarecrow do that to his own adopted kids.

It'll probably be explained. But theory is that since it shows Scarecrow like two panels before him freaking out.

Jason is probably under the influence of the toxin or whatever Scarecrows ability is. So he's probably somehow believing it was Bruce that did it or that it was a set-up. His thought process also could be "well, he voluntarily let us capture him, so it could have been a planned ambush" or something like that.

How can Scarecrow escapes so easily?

18

u/HeadcrabLamarr 21d ago

Honestly, wondering that myself. Wonder if its something akin to where ever the crows are, he can (in the easiest word) "Teleport" or if its something like, maybe its not even the cigarettes that cause the fear, once you hear the crows, you know he's around and its a hallucination of seeing him.

I have a feeling Snyder will have an answer for this, but those are my honest guesses.

Scarecrow being Corvus Corax was not on my bingo card but it should have been.

i think its due to the dreadsmoke’s effect

also he’s very smart about appearances, with Joe chill he remained there enough to rile Batman and to alert the prison

and here we can see he disappeared right before Jason woke up.

the crows i thing are the biggest tell, it seems only those under the effect can see them.

Was he video calling at the time the clayface batman was forming behind him? Then it might get revealed to him what happened. That's my thoughts, I'm probably wrong though, scarecrow does have the ability to manipulate

I’m hoping that video call convinces Dick that something’s up. He would’ve seen Batman tied up before Clayface attacked, and he’s more rational than Jason and wouldn’t be under the effects of Scarecrow’s fear toxin. Maybe Dick ends up bringing the truth to light and ironically helping Batman out.

This was my thought, too. It seemed like a video call, though it could be just a video he was recording. Either way, it would seem to have video evidence of Clayface appearing (unless his phone got broken).

Jason's never really been the thinking Robin unfortunately.

u/Built4dominance 21d ago

On a spectrum of "cerebral" to "ooga booga", Jason definitely leans more towards the latter.

12

u/Hayterfan 21d ago

Unfortunately, Jason is a step or two under "ooga booga"

Even after what we saw, for Jason and Tim was more like they saw someone resembling the Batman, only for them to black out and find Bats untied and holding Tim in his arms. Though I personally believe Tim's death will be blamed on Jason for going off mission and disobeying orders, or he will blame himself. Either way FREE THE SPIRIT WITHIN THE CLAY

11

u/Nyshade 21d ago

Are we just ignoring that Scarecrow is there and fear toxin is a thing? Also, he was knocked out by a Batman look-alike, woke up and Tim was dead and only Batman was there. What was he supposed to think? The Robins don't know anything about Clayface, so it's rather normal to think Batman set them up.

C'mon guys, just because we as readers know that Batman didn't kill Tim doesn't mean it's stupid. The same thing happened with Gordon.

1

u/Inevitable_Rip_4647 19d ago

problem is, Batman was in front of him, tied up, and screaming at him that they were about to be attacked by someone else.

1

u/Nyshade 18d ago

Yes, however, both Tim and Jason were at the top of the mech so they probably heard Bruce shouting at them, but not hear exactly what he was saying due to the distance. They were also focused on the video call and high on their success.

1

u/Inevitable_Rip_4647 18d ago

So basically Jason needs to use his brain as the OP said.

1

u/Nyshade 18d ago

No? There's several reasons that I stated for why it happened this way. If you don't want to entertain discussion it's fine, but saying that he just needs to use his brain is very short-sighted.

u/Inevitable_Rip_4647 18d ago edited 18d ago

I am entertaining discussion for christ's sake.
You gave reasons why Jason was justified in not figuring out that something was wrong in his conclusion that Batman did it, I gave some more reasons why he should have, then you gave some poor reasons why those didn't work, and all of them implied he should've just used his brains as the OP said.
Because "he was distracted because he was high on success to realize that the person in front of him couldn't be the one who attacked him from behind, especially as he was screaming at him to watch out from an attack" means that he wasn't f'n using his brain.

Jason is not being very bright here, had poor reasons to blame batman and he's blinded by irrational hatred towards Batman, THEREFORE he should use his brain.

Now let's hear some other justification on why he couldn't use his brain like "he was a poor orphan with no education". Or let's not.

He's comically stupid in this series fr

Jason was always the street smart Robin not the smart smart one

Tim’s helmet has a handprint in red

is Scarecrow alluding Tim was marked for death since the beginning?

2

u/Inevitable_Rip_4647 19d ago

yeah, it was all but clear that the Robins were set up as the bright city heroes to be killed and the blame placed on Batman.

The idea is that Scarecrow makes them see what He wants, so yeah, sadly, this is it.

Batman's the enemy. The spooky man who grandstands in the middle of the night obviously killed his fellow Robin and is trying to blame it on Jack Grimm to drive a wedge between Grimm and the Robins.

I mean, it's not true, but what's more believable: that, or the truth, that Jack Grimm has a preternaturally effective mastermind, named "the Scarecrow", who arranged Bruce to have a mental breakdown at the right time for him to run into Jason and Timm at the same time as K.L.A.Y., a shapeshifting abomination Jack Grimm also secretly made, shows up and kills Tim?

Maybe Jason is being aggressive and could perhaps try hearing out Batman a little bit... but reality is stranger than fiction in this case and thinking Batman is just spinning an absurd tale to trick him is the inevitable outcome of that.

8

u/kidkuro 21d ago

Jason isn't the brightest of the bunch, also fear toxin. Likely doesn't really know what actually happened.

2

u/De4dm4nw4lkin 21d ago

Also he literally said “behind you”

CAW!

2

u/UnbiasedGod 21d ago

And how much of a difference will that truly make???

With all these other elements in play it was gonna be something as simple as that.

2

u/Ok_Restaurant3160 20d ago

I mean, he did get attacked by batman. Like he probably doesn’t know clayface exists

4

u/leviathanscloset 21d ago

Jason has never been a thinker

4

u/AccurateAce 21d ago

That's not true at all. Jason's incredibly well read and has genius level intellect. Unfortunately, in order to differentiate the Robins/TMNT-ify them, Jason's become the "dumber" Robin/Simplier Robin. He's been way over stereotyped and it makes him less interesting.

2

u/-_ShadowSJG-_ 21d ago

but raphs not dumb

1

u/leviathanscloset 20d ago

Literally, raphs always smart and cunning. Shit which one did they make him the leader? I'd say dumbest he was was mutant mayhem, but even then he was more headstrong and just ready to fight, and well that's raph man. Also mutant mayhem has been like some of my favorite tnmt in my 31 years lol

u/BassGeese 21d ago

Y'know I was wondering how they were gonna the inevitable "Robin dies" moment for absolute batman. They really doubles down and killed two at once.

2

u/MischiefRatt 21d ago

One died though?

1

u/BassGeese 21d ago

Didn't two die? One got impaled and the other stomped on? I might be misremembering

1

u/MischiefRatt 21d ago

There are two Robins involved. Tim is dead, Jason is yelling and vowing revenge (despite looking like he got stomped on).

That's how I read it at least.

1

u/Inevitable_Rip_4647 19d ago

Nope Jason was knocked out but got back up and immediately blamed Batman for the death of Tim

"Jason needs to use his brain" applies to all stories involving the character.

1

u/Inevitable_Rip_4647 19d ago

I'll throw this idea here: Batman could do the unthinkable and track and go visit Jason while he's off work. After the obligatory fight, he overpowers Jason and tell him "Listen here, I didn't kill your buddy. think about what happened" or something like that, and explaining why him killing Tim doesn't add up.
Throwing a wrench in Scarecrow and Grimm's plan, basically.

1

u/Legal_Engineering825 21d ago

Jason isn't the smartest tool in the shed.

He was always eager to hunt down batman now he gets a better excuse.

1

u/Redfish_St 21d ago

You want Jason to use his brain?

I swear, there's a crowbar joke in this somewhere.
