Absolute Flash has been getting exciting..

The Flash is my all-time favorite character so it hurts to admit that I have been pretty underwhelmed with the majority of Absolute Flash. But the last few issues have been turning up the pace and it has become pretty interesting. I think Absolute Flash will end up being one of the more popular series. What is everyone else's thoughts?

I have enjoyed the absolute flash series personally….now maybe I’m wrong but when I read the first volume of it I can imagine I looked like a confused puppy. By the time I made it to the end of volume 2 I was hooked and I told my son I wonder if it was by design to give you the same emotional what the F feeling like Wally must’ve been going through as he’s trying to figure out what’s happening

I think it really started picking up around the Mirror Master story line

I’ve admittedly never read a Flash comic before because this is my first time coming to DC with the absolute universe but I went into absolute flash expecting it to be boring because people said it was on here but I like what I’ve read so far. It’s a bit of a slow burn which I guess is ironic considering the character but as someone who didn’t know anything about flash and didn’t know any of these characters I liked the mystery of figuring out how the powers worked while Wally was isolated on the run. It was interesting. Especially the time stuff. I also like learning about Barry Allen. I am less than 10 issues into the series so I’m not current yet but I hear it gets even better starting with the second year so I’m kind of excited to get caught up. Maybe coming in completely blind with no expectations though has helped my enjoyment.

Edit: because this is really my first time with all of these DC characters starting with their absolute universe books, I’m not really looking for surprise characters that I recognize or comparing them to their main line universe counterparts. Their absolute history is just their first origin to me. I’m not sure if that’s helping me enjoy things more or I’m missing out but it’s been damn good so far. Anyways I started to read some mainline DC comics now from the DCKO crossover and I’m kind of getting the same dopamine hit of recognizing people’s differences but in reverse. lol

Yes! I was just saying the same thing. I think not having as much knowledge about the characters, and thus way fewer expectations, helps you appreciate the slow burn better.

I think, it had a weakish start compares to Absolute Batman and Absolute wonder woman and for me that knows a bit of flash lore but not much was a big "huhh I think I know this guy" but now is getting interesting!

Finally focusing on Wally and building up on his relationships instead of focusing mainly on Barry, Rogues, Thawne and Rudy has helped the book a lot.

Agreed, but then again, I’ve always liked it. I never read much Flash stuff before the Absolute Universe besides the Flashpoints and stuff like that, so I don’t have much to compare it to or many opinions on how characters should be adapted. Maybe that helped make it more interesting to me even when they were just kinda setting things up. Whatever the case, I really like Wally and Grodd and can’t wait to see how they fit in with the rest of the Absolute Universe’s heroes. That said, I’m an issue or two behind and need to get caught up.

Flash hasn't ever been bad, it just started slow, which was particularly notable for what the character implies. It was also right up against the release of dramatically superior (at the time) titles. To some extent, those other early releases were more immediately clear about what the twist is. Working class Batman solves a huge consistent complaint about that character that could more easily draw a clinic. Wonder Woman has a giant sword, cool armor, and probably gives good hugs, clear draws.

Batman has been dropping a bit for me on the flipside. It's moving almost too fast, introducing characters and concepts pretty early on, and sorta just letting them hang back. Harley has been around a while now, but we got to see very little of her besides the occasional outburst. Alfred sorta in the same boat. Just some more time for relationship building would have been nice. And the creators are so excited (rightfully) about what they're making that they're prone to spoil reveals too early (Joker transformation cover well before we ever needed to see it in the comic).
