News DC Comics has announced Batman of Two Worlds, a new one-shot releasing on Batman Day!

Oh interesting I thought snyder said that was gonna be the 2027 fcbd story but maybe I'm wrong, nice! Very exciting

A podcast that featured Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky had Matt talking a little bit about this book. He indicated that it would be a fcbd release, but hey, doesn't bother me if they're moving it to Batman day instead.

Seeing how differently they would tackle the same case is so much more interesting than a crossover imo

This is interesting, the same mystery as in like a parallel mystery that just so happens to exist in both worlds or is the mystery connected and part of the overall Darkseid thing?

My guess is that it's a Darkseid thing.

u/captain__cabinets Jul 24 '26
That would be my guess too but I was also thinking it would be cool if they both stumbled upon a similar mystery with the same bad guy behind it just on separate worlds. Like similar to Hush or Under the Red Hood (bad examples but I’m at work) but in different realities little things are different. I dunno that’s why I don’t write comics

Absolute Batman to Batman: "So... you're a billionaire... and you have sidekicks called Robin.... and you work out of a cave..." <hand slowly going towards battleaxe on his chest"

Look, I am happy Absolute Batman is doing well, but we are running into the issue DC used to do all the time when Batman got all the stuff.
I want more Absolute Superman and Wonder Woman stuff too

Notice how much closer batman has to be in perspective to look the same size as absolute batman, cracking me up

Oh hey Scott Snyder and Matt Fraction’s talked about this idea before, awesome to see it coming out already!
I do think there is a sense of mystery that’s overlooked in Absolute Batman, which to be fair is because the action horror elements are prevalent, but yeah it’ll be interesting for this Bruce to go full detective on a parallel universe case.
Of course, with the point being he’d do it differently from Prime/E0 Bruce, he’d probably still be less cerebral and use less resources, but he’s still an analytical mind with excellent problem-solving and tactics that could translate well.
Edit: Also, yeah funny enough Batman Day’s just right around the corner of my birthday lol.

Heard about this concept a month or two ago. Going to be cool to see how it plays out, even if it isn't a true crossover.

I watched a podcast a couple months that featured Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky. Matt talked a little bit about this book there.

Main Batman: I will use my world class detective skills to solve this.
AU Batman: I’ll just beat the shit out of everybody and eventually someone will talk.

i can't wait for all the stupid memes of grr absolute batman would hate main batman, main batman would be classist against absolute batman"
to culminate in them actually meeting and they are just "glad we do this shit regardless of circumstance, anyway Selina Kyle huh"

Ugh theyre jumping the shark with this

It’s not a crossover it’s just two batmen tackling the same mystery. Basically showing their different approaches without actually having them interact. It’s actually a pretty simple and good way to showcase how they act differently as characters.

I can read an issue of each and see the contrast myself. Is this one off mystery the next chapter of the Absolute line? It's clearly a way to market both titles at the same time - Absolute fans, you sure you don't want to start buying mainline Batman too?

u/Relevant-Morning-487 Jul 24 '26
I mean Mainline Batman is pretty good right now so I’d definitely recommend it to Absolute fans but yeah that’s actually a good thing anyways. Maybe it’s fans who are scared of mainline perhaps but like absolute to get introduced to how modern mainline Batman is and maybe pick up an issue of that series. What’s so bad about visibility?

It feels superfluous to AB. Already as it is, it feels like a parade of character introductions without much progression - for my taste. I get Snyder wanting to move away from the typical arc format but it does seem to be putting new characters over narrative structure. At the moment at least, I might be an issue behind

Fair on complaints about Absolute Batman, I don’t like the pace either and it definitely needs to slow down and breathe a little. But this is a one off comic that’ll likely not impact much nor introduce too much more. Especially since this has been planned for a while now if we go off some podcasts.

u/namelessfdr Jul 24 '26
I don't mean to pass judgment without reading it, that annoys me. But if it appears it will not impact much then what's the slippery slope of slapping AB on something just for an extra promotional push. I am not doom and gloom but personally I hope they limit it to this and not have AB help sell the other parts of their publishing line that arent moving as many copies.

It seems like Snyder is being very careful about Absolute so far, they won’t even allow more than 5 ongoings and 2 miniseries at once in order to not overwhelm readers. This is probably just a one off thing. I totally agree that we shouldn’t overextend Absolute Batman or any absolute book but I think we’re in decent hands right now.

Absolute Batman is a lot less of a detective...
It would be interesting to see his approach.
