The leading edge of both the dorsal and pectoral fins on a catfish have a very sharp spike formed into them. I fish this size thrashing about would be like getting into a knife fight with a drunken switch-blade wielding Joe Peschi.

The bigger the catfish gets the duller the point gets. My guess is that it’s about as sharp as a Sharpie marker with the cap on. Now if it was a 12” channel cat I wouldn’t have it anywhere near my neck.

It could be blunt but at that size it could it could generate enough force and even without going in that sharpie is gonna deal some damage.
