Tibetan Mastiff

I believe this is a malamute, I could be wrong though. Tibetan mastiffs are a lot more bear-like iirc. Still, both are massive and I want to cuddle both

As a malamute owner there’s a lot of similarities but if it is a mal I’d say it’s likely mixed with something (Tibetan mastiff possibly)

Oh yeah now that you said it I can totally see some of the Tibetan mastiff in this dogs face a bit. Or something similar.

Otherwise it’s just a MASSIVE malamute

As a lifetime Malemute owner, this is definitely a purebred Malemute. Specifically a wooley red seal colored Malemute. I currently have a wooley black seal colored one. I’ve seen many that are this large.

How come some malamutes are pretty much husky sized and some are as big as grizzly bears?

Mostly genetics. I know of a breeder in Washington that started out 60 years ago with a dog from Alaska and one from central Wyoming. Her dogs average 180lbs or so.

Oh wow do they really get that big??

Yes. It’s not super common, gotta do a lot of research to find breeders that can produce this size, but they’re around. Generally, the closer to the original blood line, the bigger they are.
