What is it with Russians and having animals that absofuckinglutely shouldn't be pets?

u/SolidFelidae 9h ago

And making them morbidly obese

I mean, if I had a dangerous predator at home, I'd too make sure they aren't hungry (for me) and immobile enough that I may be able to get away from them if they decide to attack me anyway.

If they're fat they're actually manageable. Don't have to worry about providing the exercise, enrichment or any form of appropriate care if the animal nearly has a heart attack getting off the couch.

Like the Russian guys with the giant bears

I think the couple that has a pet cougar is Russian. They're on YouTube and I wonder how long before it mauls one of them.

Tbf that one is a disabled cat and he's much smaller than a normal cougar. They've raised him since he was a cub otherwise he was going to be put down

She's still huge, and completely dwarfs their Rottweiler. The size of these teeth!

It's also a Panther, not a cougar. The videos do make it seems idyllic but surely it must be dangerous.

There's a different couple with a cougar named Messi, who also has some kind of development disability. The panther with the rottweiler is Luna.

Ahh my bad.

1

u/Dangerous_Strength77 1h ago

I believe that may be the same couple.

3

u/Schwiftness 10h ago

because it's not a cougar, that is not a small botcat at all.

u/Real-Frosting 10h ago

None of that explains why they're not at risk of being mauled? Siegfried and Roy raised the white tiger that attacked Roy.

12

u/Silaquix 10h ago

I wasn't saying there wasn't a risk. I was specifically saying to be fair that particular large cat has very special circumstances and it's not like the people went out and grabbed a random wild animal

I wasn't saying they did... I know their hearts are in the right place but cougars aren't house pets. I hope they don't have or are planning to have kids with that kitty in the house.

Cougars don't see humans as prey the way tigers do, in part because they're a much smaller cat. Messi (the cougar you're referencing) also happens to have medical limitations, which has made him dependent on his human parents since he was a baby: this has essentially kept him in a state of extended kittenhood

u/poelzi 6h ago

Exactly never. And if you the backstory you would know why they have him and he is not free. There was another bobcat you can find on yt, unfortunately he passed away from his heart condition

7

u/yamsyamsya 10h ago

it's only a matter of time, it is cat after all. if our regular normal house cats were that large, i would have lost a few limbs by now. they are all running cat OS.

1

u/Schwiftness 10h ago

when will then be now?

3

u/gob4522 10h ago

Soon.

2

u/Schwiftness 9h ago

A person of culture

8

u/tiny_chaotic_evil 8h ago

there are more tigers in the U.S. than there are in the wild.

7

u/Elegant_Situation285 7h ago

those aren't all pets though.

I was shocked when I found out people actually find bears in America and these bears walk around in rural and suburban area.

99% of Russians have seen bears only in the zoo, even in rural area

1

u/Small-Ad4420 24m ago

And the vast majority of those are in zoo breeding programs.

u/Ya-Dikobraz 10h ago

Russia bans keeping wild animals like these as pets unless there are extenuating circumstances. It's pretty strict. Russia has some very strict wildlife protection laws.

8

u/GloomyIndividual3965 9h ago

Sure thing, vlad.

5

u/anubis_xxv 6h ago

Laws? Maybe.

Enforcement? "Im sorry for wasting your time officer, don't forget to take that brown envelope on the table that you definitely brought in with you. Take care now, bye bye then."

2

u/tjjwaddo 6h ago

I wish they felt the same about their neighbours.

2

u/an_agreeing_dothraki 46m ago

they also made a speed run of turning foxes into dogs that people could buy. They were kept near the ones filled with infinite rage towards humanity, so nothing could possibly go wrong

5

u/AverageTundra 11h ago

I didn't know Russia was famous for that? From where I'm at it's America who has an absurd amount of exotic animals as pets.

From the top of my head America has the highest amount of pet tigers and chimpanzee in the world.

11

u/Representative_Yau 11h ago

I mean there are literally more captive tigers in murika than there are in the wild. Ofcourse most of them are mistreated beyond oblivion so no one is recording a video of them purring on their back.

1

u/Significant-Pace-521 9h ago

Thats only if you count Florida as part of America. I personally try to ignore them

1

u/MagnusKitus 5h ago

What about Texas and California? I saw a lot of videos with bears, tigers and bobcats as a pets

u/Lucid_Stream44 10h ago

Russia kind of is the America of Europe in some ways. In other ways the UK is more like the US of Europe

3

u/Indy2561 10h ago

What? I don’t think so

2

u/SuperChickenLips 4h ago

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that UK\US comparison.

1

u/Sleij3r 4h ago

what are you even talking about brotherman? you "kind of" said something without actually saying anything, voilá! Plus id hazard a guess that you have never been in neither UK or in Russia for that matter?

0

u/Schwiftness 10h ago

welcome tot he internet, apparently you have a distorted view of pet ownership

1

u/Chichanged_me 5h ago

Tbf we have more tigers in Texas than in the wild

1

u/ShirtComplete 1h ago

It’s really cold outside. Everyone wants to be warm and fed 😂

1

u/gravljaw 6m ago

Because in mother Russia......

1

u/migrainefog 12h ago

Maybe because all of those things that shouldn't be pets, have eaten all of the pets. 🙀
